DeutschNová Bystřice is a historic town of roughly 3200 inhabitants in 2025 in South Bohemia, near the border with Austria, about 15km southeast from Jindřichův Hradec. It is a charming town and definitely an off-the-beaten-path destination.

Nová Bystřice was first mentioned in written texts in 1175, making it the oldest settlement in today's Jindřichův Hradec district.
In 1897, a narrow gauge line from Jindřichův Hradec to Nová Bystřice was opened.

Get in

[edit | edit source]Nová Bystřice is on the southern edge of the Czech Republic and it takes approximately 2 hr 20 min by car to get there from Prague.
By bus
[edit | edit source]There is no direct connection from Prague, but you can take a bus from Roztyly bus station (near metro station on red C line) to Jindřichův Hradec and transfer here to a local bus, the ride takes between 3h and 3h50min.
By train
[edit | edit source]Nová Bystřice is an endpoint of a narrow gauge line from Jindřichův Hradec; trains on narrow gauge railway are slow, but the rides are scenic. Buy tickets from the conductor on the train.
Get around
