Nyahururu is in the Southern Rift Valley in Kenya.

[edit | edit source]Nyahururu is a town in Laikipia County, Kenya, in the Southern Rift Valley. It is a highland town known for its cool climate, agricultural surroundings and proximity to Thomson's Falls. The town is an important commercial and transport centre for the surrounding area.
Nyahururu lies at an elevation of about 2,300 metres above sea level, making it considerably cooler than many other parts of Kenya. The surrounding landscape consists of open farmland, grassland and rolling highlands, with the Aberdare Range nearby. The town is also an important stopping point for travellers moving between central Kenya, Laikipia and destinations farther north.
Get in
[edit | edit source]Traveling by matatu is the most common way reaching Nyahururu, they are plentiful but not very conformable. A trip from Nairobi should take four hours and cost around Ksh 700. The nearest major city, Nakuru, is about one hour away.
Kenya Railways operates a passenger service from Nairobi twice per week, while the journey takes 7½ hours it's a much more relaxing journey compared to a matatu.

- 1 Thomson's Falls. A 74 m (243 ft) waterfall on the Ewaso Ng'iro river situated 3 km (1.9 mi) from the town of Nyahururu, at 2,360 m (7,740 ft) elevation. In 1883 Joseph Thomson was the first European to reach Thomson Falls, and named them for his father.
