Orani is a town in Bataan, Central Luzon, the Philippines. Situated at the eastern side of the Bataan peninsula, it has natural and historic attractions, including the only Roman Catholic basilica in Bataan.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Orani is known to have existed as early as the 17th century, and became an independent town in 1714. Much of the town was destroyed in a fire in 1938 and was rebuilt, only to be devastated again during World War II in the Battle of Bataan in 1942. The Bataan Death March also passed through the town.
It is home to about 73,000 people (census, 1 July 2024) 
Get in
[edit | edit source]Orani lies along Roman Superhighway (Route 301), the main six-lane transport artery through eastern Bataan which bypasses downtown Orani. Bataan National Road, a narrow two-lane thoroughfare, passes through the town center. The two highways are connected to each other by capillary roads.
Orani is connected by minibuses to the provincial capital Balanga. From Metro Manila, Genesis and Victory Liner operate daily bus trips on their way to Balanga and Mariveles.
Get around

Orani's main Roman Catholic church, rebuilt in its original Baroque style following the 1938 fire. Since 2019, it is the only basilica in Bataan and houses a venerated Marian image of the Our Lady of the Rosary, also known locally as Our Lady of Orani.
- 2 Tangilad Dam, Barangay Pag-asa. An irrigation dam on the foothills of Mount Natib with views of the surrounding lowlands and Bataan National Park.
- 3 Bataan National Park. A 23,000 hectares (57,000 acres) protected forest area covering Mount Natib, a dormant volcano with a wide caldera encompassing most of northern and central Bataan.
- Death March markers. The Bataan Death March passed through the center of Orani, as marked by the life-size white obelisks lining the original route along Bataan National Road.
