Ravalli

Ravalli is a village in Northwestern Montana.

Named for a 19th century missionary, Ravalli's population is under 200 people. At one time, the largest herd of bison in the United States was here.

U.S. Highway 93 connects Ravalli with Missoula to the south and Kalispell to the north.

Montana Highway 200 branches off from US 93 and heads northwest to Thompson Falls.

• 47.1917-114.091 Garden of One Thousand Buddhas, 34765 White Coyote Rd (Arlee). A stunning Tibetan Buddhist site. One thousand Buddha statues radiate in wheel spokes from a twenty-four-foot Prajnaparamita hub, in the midst of the Jocko Valley, which is, itself, no scenic slouch.  

• 47.16924-114.082252 Jocko River Trout Hatchery (Arlee). Daily 8:30AM-4:30PM. A Fish, Wildlife & Parks facility that produces trout eggs for stocking all over Montana. Best to call ahead for a tour and learn more about Montana's fish management practices.  
• 47.315-114.1019443 St. Ignatius Mission (in St. Ignatius). Has historical roots extending to the 1830s, and some of the most beautiful church murals in Montana. The log cabin outside the main church has nuns' headstones worked into the floor and walls--an unusual feature in this area.  

• 47.278325-114.1824281 The Bison Inn, 27330 US Hwy 93, ☏ +1-406-745-0997. Daily 8AM–3PM. Famous for bison burgers, real huckleberry shakes, and breakfast. Much of the food is organic. Pay cash only, no credit cards.  (updated Aug 2017)
