- Not to be confused with Rodrigues, Mauritius.
Rodriguez is a town at the foothills of the Sierra Madre at the province of Rizal.
Understand
[edit | edit source]The town was known as Montalban from its inauguration in 1908 to 1982, when it was renamed as Rodriguez, after a local politician. Despite the name change, it is still commonly called by its former name.
Lying at the northern edges of Rizal, Rodriguez hugs the foothills of the Sierra Madre and is a refuge from Manila's sprawl; however, the town forms a huge part of the mess which spilled eastward along the Marikina River. The municipal area covers 26% of Rizal's land area, big enough for space for various developments. It is home to about 451,000 people (census, 1 July 2024)
Get in
[edit | edit source]There are UVs and minibuses that are bound for Sta. Lucia in Cainta and Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.
Jeepneys from terminals in the town center are bound for Marikina town proper and SM in San Mateo. Jeepneys from terminals near Eastwood are bound for Aurora Boulevard in Cubao. Jeepneys from terminals in the Sub-urban village in San Isidro are bound for Commonwealth Market in Fairview. Jeepneys from terminals in Sitio Licao-Licao in Macabud are bound for Tungko in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
Taxis (both car and motorcycle) and Grab can also be used to access areas of Rodriguez directly bordering Quezon City.
Get around
[edit | edit source]
You can take tricycle for small distance from main road, J.P. Rizal Avenue to any point of Rodriguez in the downtown area like San Jose, Rosario, Balite, Manggahan, and Geronimo.
Getting in to some subdivision requires you to take pedicab, a tricycle type vehicle but it is run by human power using bicycle.
To get to far flung areas like Puray, Mascap and San Isidro, a mountainous barangay, there are special jeepneys at San Rafael Public Market.
There are available jeepneys in Kasiglahan Village in San Isidro that are bound for Burgos, near the town's boundary with San Mateo, and Wawa Dam.
