Sagbama

Sagbama is a town and the headquarters of Sagbama Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. It is located in the western part of Bayelsa State in the freshwater-swamp region of the Niger Delta.

Sagbama is an important administrative and community centre in western Bayelsa State. The town serves as the headquarters of Sagbama Local Government Area and is surrounded by a network of rivers, creeks, wetlands and freshwater swamp forest. The wider Sagbama area is strongly associated with Ijaw culture and the waterways of the Niger Delta. The local economy is based largely on farming, fishing, trading, public services and petroleum-related activities. Ijaw languages are widely spoken in the area.
