Salleri

Salleri is the main town of Solududhkunda Municipality and the district headquarters of Solu Khumbu.

Sallari has a population of some 6,500, the municipality some 25,000 on 565 km² (2021).

There is nowadays a driveable road to Salleri.

Buses and jeeps start from Kathmandu 5–7 in the morning and arrive in Sallari 10–12 hr later. At least the last part of the journey is bumpy. The ride costs about 1,500–4,000 Rs as of 2026.

Fly in from Kathmandu to the Phaplu Airport (35 minutes). A 20-min downhill walk from there gets you to Salleri. The airport is at 2,413 m (7,917 ft). Flights to Lukha often get diverted to here, but also flights to Phaplu often get disrupted by unsuitable weather.

• Monastery Of Chewong Gompa (a 3-hr walk northward).  
• Precious Salleri Chalsa Electric Hydropower Power house (2½-hr walk downhill, to the south).  
• Dudh Kunda (a 2-day walk northward). The "Milky Lake", just below the gorgeous Mt. Numbur and Mt.Karyalung. 
• Pike Hill (a 1½-day walk westward). A 4,056 m (13,307 ft) viewpoint, where you can witness a wonderful view of the Himalayas from Kanchanjunga in the east to Dhaulagiri in the west along with lovely sunrises and sunsets. 
• Ratnange Hill (a 3-hr walk up the hill from Phaplu). Viewpoint where one can witness the majestic Himalayas along with Everest. 

One can buy many locally made handicrafts at the local market. Clothes made from wild stinging nettle (Allo product), Nepali paper note books, carpet made from wool of mountain sheep (Raadi), other woollen Tibetan style carpets too.

You can eat at the hotels and lodges.

Local Rakchi, local beer (Chhang), Tongba. Foreign brands are also available.

There are numerous hotels and lodges, among them Everest Hotel and Shangrila Hotel in Phaplu.

There is a district hospital just 2 min walk from the airstrip at Phaplu.
