Understand

[edit | edit source]

San Fabian, formerly known as Angio, is one of the oldest settlements in Pangasinan, having existed in the precolonial era as a coastal trading post for Chinese, Japanese, Ilocano and Cordilleran traders. During World War II, the town was the site of amphibious landings along Lingayen Gulf by Japanese and then American forces in the battle to control Luzon. A legacy of this is its beaches being referred to by locals by the code names used by US forces who landed ashore in 1945.

San Fabian is located at the mouth of the Bued River along the northeastern shore of Lingayen Gulf, which gives the town a thriving fishing industry. It also forms Pangasinan's boundary with the province of La Union.

It is home to about 88,000 people (census, 1 July 2024) "edit wikidata"

Get in

[edit | edit source]

San Fabian is along Route 55 (Pangasinan-La Union Road), which connects La Union with Pangasinan's commercial capital, Dagupan. Buses, jeepneys and passenger vans ply the highway, including those heading to Baguio, San Fernando and other locations further north in the Ilocos Region.

San Fabian also has direct bus connections with Metro Manila, while private vehicles take either the Binalonan or Rosario exits of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) and take capillary highways leading to San Fabian such as Binalonan-Dagupan Highway, which has a junction with Pangasinan-La Union Road in the town of Mangaldan to the south, or Manila North Road (MacArthur Highway), which has a junction with Pangasinan-La Union Road in the town of Rosario to the north.

South of downtown San Fabian, in Barangay Longos, is a diversion road leading to the coastal barangays of Dagupan.
