Sesimbra is a fishing town and municipality on Portugal's Setúbal Peninsula. It has several popular beaches due to its location on Setúbal Bay at the mouth of the River Sado.

Sesimbra (s(ih)-ZEEM-bruh, /sɨ.ˈzĩ.bɾɐ/) municipality has 52,394 residents (2021, provisional), with about 5,600 living in the town proper.

Get in
[edit | edit source]Carris Metropolitana provides bus service from several locations, including Lisbon and the ferry at Cacilhas in Almada.
The nearest motorway is the A2 (Autoestrada do Sul) from Lisbon. Exit 2 leads to N378, which provides access into Sesimbra and to its beaches. Access from Setúbal is best from the N10 road to N379.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Castelo de Sesimbra (Sesimbra Castle, Castelo dos Mouros, Castle of the Moors). Summer: 10:00–20:00 daily, winter: 07:00–19:00 daily. This medieval castle, built c. 1200, lies on a cliffside with excellent views. It is a national monument. Free.
