This area is bear territory. If walking or hiking in nature try to be noisy to prevent any encounters with bears.

Being a series of fishing villages along the cost, Shakotan is famous for its fresh seafood. However, most restaurants in Shakotan close by 16:00.

  • Uroko (うろこ). Rinkoso's small restaurant, serving uni bowl only. \4300.
  • Misaki, 236 Hiduka-cho, Shakotan-gun, 046-0326, +81 135-45-6547. 9:00-?. Seafood restaurant. To acquire their special Red Bafun Uni, only available between July and August, one must arrive one hour before opening, given only 15 servings are made per day, for ¥5000 each.
