Shibetsu (士別) is a small city in Kamikawa, Hokkaido. Breeding of Suffolk sheep is undertaken here.

By plane
[edit | edit source]About 1hr 30min by car away to Asahikawa Airport.
By train
[edit | edit source]JR Soya Main Line runs through in the city from Asahikawa to Wakkanai. Limited Express "Soya" and "Sarobetsu" from Sapporo to Wakkanai, they stop the Shibetsu Station.
By bus
[edit | edit source]Highway bus service "Highway Nayoro" (高速なよろ号), it runs through from Sapporo to Nayoro with 4-5 round trips per day. About 3 hr and ¥2650 fare from/to Sapporo. There are other bus services operated by Dohoku Bus, from Asahikawa to Nayoro with 12 round trips per day.
By car
[edit | edit source]Hokkaido expwy runs from Sapporo to Shibetsu-Kenbuchi IC. There are plans to extend Nayoro.

[edit | edit source]JR Soya Main Line passes through in the city. There are 4 stations from south to north,
- 1 Shibetsu Station (士別駅), 8chome, Nishi3,. Central city. Limited Express stops.
- 2 Tayoro Station (多寄駅), Tayoro-cho,.
- 3 Mizuho Station (瑞穂駅), 31sen, Tayoro-cho,.
By bus
[edit | edit source]Shibetsu Kido operates local bus service in the around Shibetsu. There is also a Shibetsu Hire office in front of the station.

- 2 Iwaonai Dam (岩尾内湖), Iwaonai, Asahi-cho (about 40 min by car from Shibetsu station). A dammed lake on the Teshio River, where beautiful scenery can be admired throughout the day.
Do
[edit | edit source]- 1 Mount Teshio (天塩岳). The highest peak in the Kitami Mountains. There are well-maintained trails.
Buy
[edit | edit source]- 1 Roadside station Shibetsu (道の駅 羊のまち 侍・しべつ 道北), ☏ +81 165-26-7353. Deals with souvenirs from the Shibetsu region. It has a restaurant and a bus stop for express buses.
Eat
[edit | edit source]Sheep cuisine is provided at the hotels and restaurants in the city.
- Hills of Sheep and Cloud (Hitsuji-to-Kumo-no-oka, 羊と雲の丘), 5351, Nisishibetsu-cho. Unsurprisingly, the restaurant here provides a lot of lamb-based meals in various cuisines Jinngisukan-don (popular Hokkaido meal with grill-yourself mutton and vegetables) ¥980, Lamb set meal ¥2000, etc..
