See
[edit | edit source]- 1 Upopoy (ウポポイ). Complex for the culture of Ainu. National Ainu Museum, shops, restaurants and food court, and some activities.
- 2 Ayoro Beach. Scenic Pacific coastline near Shiraoi, with rocky shore, cliffs and small beaches. The area has archaeological importance, with evidence of prehistoric human occupation.
- 3 Inkura Falls. A 44-metre waterfall in the forested hills west of Shiraoi. A short trail leads through the forest to viewpoints of the falls, making it a worthwhile excursion for those exploring the area's natural attractions.
- 4 Lake Kuttara. A remarkably clear, almost perfectly circular volcanic lake east of Shiraoi. Surrounded by forest and volcanic mountains, it is one of Hokkaido's most scenic caldera lakes and lies close to Noboribetsu.
- 5 Mount Horohoro. A 1,322-metre mountain on the border of Shiraoi and Date. A popular hiking destination with a demanding trail through forest and mountain terrain, rewarding climbers with broad views across southern Hokkaido.
- 6 Shiogama Shrine. Small Shinto shrine in Shiraoi associated with the local fishing community and the worship of the sea deity Shiogama.
