Understand

[edit | edit source]

The municipality of Someren has almost 20,000 inhabitants (19,428 in 2021), and a little over half of them live in the main village, Someren-Dorp. Besides the main village the municipality has three smaller villages: Lierop (about 2,300 inhabitants, centred on its domed church), Someren-Eind and Someren-Heide (about 1,400 inhabitants).

Someren-Dorp has a compact centre around the Wilhelminaplein and Postelstraat, with shops, cafés with terraces and a theatre. The Zuid-Willemsvaart canal runs along the border with Limburg, and the heathland and fens of the Somerense Heide and Strabrechtse Heide are close by.
