Soyo is a port town in Northern Angola, at the mouth of the Congo River on the Atlantic coast. It is the centre of Angola's northern oil and gas industry and home to the Angola LNG plant, so most visitors come for work. The town is also where Portuguese navigator Diogo Cão reached the Congo River in 1482.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Soyo is in Zaire Province, across the river from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Oil service bases, the LNG plant and the port dominate the local economy, and a large share of visitors are engineers and crews on rotation. Tourist infrastructure is limited, so book accommodation and transport in advance.
