Tadlo
Tadlo (ຕາດເລາະ, also Tat Lo, pronounced đàht ló) is a village at the foot of the Bolaven Plateau in Southern Laos. It features beautiful scenery, nice waterfalls, plentiful day trips, and budget accommodation, all without the party scene of Vang Vieng or Don Det.
Get in
[edit]
From Pakse, get a bus to Salavan and ask to be dropped off at the turn-off for Tadlo (30,000 kip, 2 hr). You will be dropped off on Rte 20 at Ban Khoua Set. The only ATM in the area is here, so get cash before going further. From the drop-off point after the bridge, head 1.5 km down a road on the right hand side. There may be a tuk-tuk waiting to take you and the going rate is 10,000 kip/person (as of 2020).
Get around
[edit]Tadlo is easily navigated on foot.
See
[edit]Tadlo waterfalls. There are 3 waterfalls within 10 km of Tadlo. The first is right next to the village, the second is about a 1-km walk upstream and the third is about 8 km upstream. The second waterfall can be easily found by following the jungle path on the left hand side of the river (facing upstream). You will hear it before you see it, and there is a hand-made set of steps to take you down to the bottom of the waterfall where you can swim. You can also hop around the large stones at the top of the waterfall, and even jump off if you are brave enough, although check the area you're jumping into first.
Do
[edit]Trekking: Treks with guides can be arrange at the Tourist Info. Sites include the surrounding forest and Katu and Alak tribes people, as well as waterfalls.
Elephant rides: Tadlo Lodge offers elephant treks for 100,000 kip/person. The trek takes around 1½ hours and the elephants are very friendly and timid.

[edit]Buses back to Pakse operate a few times a day (ask a guesthouse for times), and cost 25,000 kip. There is no bus station: just wait by the side of the road.
Salavan town is 30 km away and has no tourist attractions, but is a good base for visiting tribal villages in the area.
To get elsewhere, you need to connect in Ban Beng. Take a moto-taxi there (15,000 kip) for the morning bus to Sekong (20,000 kip, 1 hr) and Attapeu (40,000 kip, 3 hr). Prices as of 2020.
