Mountain Line (海線) is the northern part of the city of Taichung, sitting at the foot of Dadu Mountain in. It is composed of the distrricts of Fengyuan, Houli, Shigang, Dongshi, Xinshe, Tanzi, Daya, Shengang, and Heping.

Get in
[edit | edit source]You mostly access the area from Central Taichung to the south or Miaoli County to the north.
You can use the TRA to reach Fengyuan, Houli, and Tanzi; other districts are accessible only by car or bus. Tanzi and Daya are close to central Taichung, making them more convenient than other districts.
Heping is the trickiest case. While important areas are connected by Provincial Highway 8, tourists can only access Guguan (谷關) by the Highway. Destinations beyond Guguan are closed to tourists - for good reason, because the roads are unsafe. Unfortunately, Lishan (梨山), known for tasty fruits and beautiful mountains, is farther than Guguan. Therefore, it is hard to access Lishan. While there's a bus route (865) from Fengyuan and Guguan to Lishan, the route must be reserved before travelling. Most people access Lishan from Yilan.
And yes, you can't access Taichung from Eastern Taiwan by bus or car. Try using the railway (after riding almost half of the island) or an air route instead.
