Tingri

Tingri, (Dingri) is a town in Xigatse Prefecture.

Mostly a military base disguised as a town, located on Friendship Hwy. Most groups traveling by Land Cruiser to/from the border with Nepal spend a night here. No public transportation available here.

Walking - Tingri is located on edge of flat plain so lots of land around town to go trekking

• Tingri Dzong - the old fort

• Trek to Qomolangma National Nature Reserve

Minimart to the west side of town

Restaurants available in the vicinity of the two hotels. Most guesthouses offer tea along with momos and potatoes for a few yuan. The best restaurant in town is the Sichuan restaurant across from the Lao Dengre Hotel.

Two hotels are available - the Everest View Hotel and the Benba Hotel.

Several Tibetan inns are also available - Amdo Guesthouse, Dingri Sunshine Hotel, Himalaya Hotel, Lao Dengre Hotel, and Rong Sha Hotel. The best of the bunch are Amdo Guesthouse and Lao Dengre Hotel since they have very nice Tibetan teahouses with carpeted floors and low to the floor seating.

East of town is the Everest Snowleopard Hotel, a Tibetan style inn, which houses group tours.
