Tiszafüred is a town in Lake Tisza region in the east of Hungary near the Hortobágy National Park. It is a favourite tourist spot and offers many recreational activities such as water skiing, bush walking, and thermal baths.

[edit | edit source]Direct trains from Budapest-Keleti pályaudvar are available once a day at summertime. Other times you have to transfer in Füzesabony. The whole journey from Budapest takes more than 2 hours and costs 2830 Ft–3215 Ft. Other direct connections are:
- Toward east: Debrecen via Balmazújváros in every two hours.
- Toward south: Karcag four times a day.

By bus
[edit | edit source]Buses are available three times a day from Budapest-Stadion. The journey takes about 3½ hours and costs 3130 Ft–3410 Ft.

This museum is a traditional farmhouse in the oldest area of the town. There is an exhibition about the living conditions and workshop of the former potter master, Gáspár Nyúzó. - 3 Reformed Church (Református templom), Fő utca 5. Built in the 18th century in Baroque style.
- 4 Assumption Roman Catholic Church (Szűz Mária mennybevétele római katolikus templom), Fő utca 25. Built between 1819–1827 in Neo-Classicist style.

In the surroundings:
- 6 Nagyiván (by bus: Tiszafüred). The 'Puszta'. The village lies at the edge of the Hortobágy National Park (a part of the World Heritage list. The village is surrounded on three sides by the National Park. There is the Kunkápolnás marsh (strictly protected 3,000-hectare area, can be visited only with permission, several rare plant and animal species live there. Near to the village border is several mound (kunhalom). One of them, the Bürok mound with its 104.8 m the highest point of elevation of the Hortobágy.

- 8 Tiszaigar (11km South of Tiszafüred). The village of Tiszaigar has St. John of Nepomuk Roman Catholic Church (1782-1785, late Baroque); the Roman Catholic parish (1782-1785, late Baroque); Reformed Church (1789, late Baroque); Millennium monument (from 2000). There is an Arboretum which was started in 1867 and renpvated in 2017 with Protected oaks, wild pear trees and King Matthias tree,
- 9 Tiszaszentimre (ancient: Zenthemreh) (by train: Karcag, Tiszafüred). Protestant church (18th-century); , vicarage (18th-century, baroque, neoclassical), Szent Imre statue (in the church garden); Village House (local history exhibit).
