Tororo is a town in Eastern Uganda, close to the border with Kenya. It is an important commercial and industrial centre and serves as a transport link between Uganda and Kenya. The town is best known for the prominent Tororo Rock, which rises above the surrounding landscape.

Tororo lies in a fertile agricultural area and is an important trading centre for surrounding communities. Its position near the Ugandan-Kenyan border has also made cross-border trade and transport important to the local economy. The town has a mixture of residential neighbourhoods, markets, shops, schools, industrial facilities and government services.

Agriculture is important in the surrounding districts, with crops such as maize, beans, cassava, coffee and other produce grown in the area.

Tororo is 10 km from the border with Kenya and 230 km from Kampala. From Tororo to Mbale is 53 km and from Tororo to Jinja is 134 km. The bus from Tororo to Mbale cost USh 4000 and takes one hour. The shared car to the Malaba border cost USh 2000.

Boda bodas, taxis, minibuses and private vehicles are the main forms of local transport. The town centre is relatively compact, making walking practical for short distances.
