Wirye (위례, 慰禮) includes part of Jangji-dong and Geoyeo-dong in Songpa-gu, Seoul, part of Changgok-dong and Bokjeong-dong in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is the second new city built in Hakam-dong, Hanam-si.

For the first time, it attracted great attention because it was a new city project, including Songpa-gu, one of the three Gangnam districts, not Gyeonggi-do Province.

The core of Wirye is its central commercial district, featuring landmarks like Wirye Central Plaza, a spacious gathering place for residents and a venue for various events. The area is also home to Starfield City Wirye, a large-scale shopping and entertainment complex that serves as a major recreational hub.

Known for its excellent walkability and well-connected public transport system, Wirye offers a high quality of life.

As of September 2024, the actual population is 126,168, and the population by administrative district is 45,083.

Wirye New Town is a planned residential city in the southeast of Seoul, extending into Seongnam and Hanam. It was first announced in 2008 as part of Korea’s large-scale housing projects to ease the housing shortage in the capital area. Construction began in the early 2010s, transforming what was once farmland and green space into a modern city. From 2015 to 2018, the first residents moved in, and today Wirye has grown into a large community with apartments, schools, parks, and convenient transport links.

The weather in Wirye New Town is generally temperate, with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and humid with occasional heavy rain, while winters are cold with occasional snow. Spring and autumn are mild and comfortable, making the climate typical of central South Korea.

Wirye New Town does not have a single official website. Since it spans three areas—Songpa-gu in Seoul, Seongnam City, and Hanam City—information must be obtained from the websites of each local government (Songpa District Office, Seongnam City Hall, and Hanam City Hall) as well as related public institutions such as SH Corporation and LH Corporation.

On the southwest side of the district is Bokjeong Station, an interchange for Seoul Subway Line 8 and the Suin–Bundang Line. On the northeast side is Macheon Station on Line 5. Nearby are Jangji Station and Namwirye Station on Line 8, while Geoyeo Station on Line 5 is a bit farther away. As of 2025, Jangji Station is the most frequently used due to its excellent bus connections.

Additionally, two light rail lines are planned: the Wirye–Sinsa Line, which will connect Wirye New Town to Sinsa Station on Line 3, and the Wirye Line, a tram-style route running from Macheon Station through Wirye New Town to Bokjeong Station.

Twenty-three routes are passing through the interior of Wirye New Town. Since traffic is barren, the dispatch interval is more than eight minutes at the earliest.

Some blocks in residential areas are equipped with specialized facilities called human rings. Human Ring is a green network placed between the circular park greening system between Jangjicheon Ecological Park and Changgokcheon Historical Park, which are specialized parks to be built in Wirye New Town. It is a space dedicated to pedestrians and bicycles away from ordinary roads. It is somewhat higher than the general sidewalk, and is directly connected by a land bridge at an intersection without a separate crosswalk. It is designed to be easily accessible from all areas of Wirye New Town, and the complex outside the human ring can reach the human ring in 5 minutes using a land bridge.
