Yashio is close to the Saitama-Tokyo border and is part of the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan Area.

Yashio is primarily a distribution center, with a number of industrial parks. It is also bedroom community with part of its population commuting to the Tokyo metropolis for work. It is home to about 93,000 people (1 March 2021) "edit wikidata"
