Yingkou

Yingkou (营口; Yíngkǒu) is a coastal port city in Liaoning Province, northeastern China. Situated along Liaodong Bay, it is known for its maritime history, sandy beaches, hot springs and fresh seafood. Visitors can explore the historic streets of the old port city, relax on the beaches of Bayuquan, or discover natural and cultural attractions in the surrounding areas.

Understand

[edit | edit source]

Yingkou lies on the northeastern coast of the Bohai Sea, where the Daliao River flows into Liaodong Bay. The city includes several distinct areas, each offering a different travel experience.

Central Yingkou is associated with the city's history as a trading port, with Liaohe Old Street and other historic buildings reflecting its commercial past. To the south, Bayuquan is a major coastal tourism area, known for its beaches, seaside parks and nearby hot springs. Gaizhou and Dashiqiao offer additional opportunities to explore the region's mountains, temples and traditional culture.

History

[edit | edit source]

Yingkou developed into an important trading port during the Qing dynasty and opened to foreign trade in 1861. Its location near the mouth of the Daliao River helped make it a commercial gateway to northeastern China.

As trade expanded, Chinese merchants and foreign businesses contributed to the city's development. Liaohe Old Street preserves traces of this period through its historic commercial buildings. Today, the old street is a place where visitors can explore Yingkou's trading heritage.

Yingkou has a monsoon-influenced humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm to hot and humid, while winters are cold, dry and often windy. Most annual rainfall occurs in summer, particularly in July and August.

Spring and autumn are generally pleasant for sightseeing, while June to August is the main season for seaside activities. Visitors travelling in winter should prepare for cold weather, although the area's hot springs provide a popular cold-season activity.
