Yiwu (义乌 Yìwū) is a city in Zhejiang, 100 km south of Hangzhou. The Yiwu International Trade City is one of the city's most important commercial areas and is a major destination for visitors interested in shopping and wholesale markets.

Yiwu is a city in central Zhejiang Province and an important international trading centre. It is particularly well known for its large wholesale markets and attracts visitors and business people from many countries.
The city is famous for its small commodity trade.

By train
[edit | edit source]Yiwu Railway Station is an important transport hub with high-speed train connections to major cities in eastern China, including Hangzhou and Shanghai.
By bus
[edit | edit source]The bus from Shanghai to Yiwu leaves about every hour and is available at various long distance inter-province bus stations (called chang tu ke yun zhan in Chinese). Some stations got more schedules than others. Make sure you know which station you are going to. Again, the hotel staff should be able to give you directions. You may want to go to either the general station (or Ke yun Zong zhan at No. 1662 of Zhongxing Road) or Pacific Station (tai ping yang station at No. 710 Hengfeng Road.)
Get around

- By bus — Local buses connect the main commercial areas, residential districts and transport hubs.
- By ride-hailing — Ride-hailing services are available and can be convenient for visitors who do not speak Chinese.

- 5 Ocean World (义乌海洋世界), Jiangbin Middle Road (Inside Yiwu Paradise, near Danxi Bridge.), ☏ +86 579 8993 8777. 08:45-17:00. A modern urban aquarium located inside Yiwu Paradise. It features marine life exhibits, a deep-sea tunnel, coral and tropical rainforest areas, and educational and interactive displays.
- 6 Yiwu Stadium (义乌市体育场), 299 Binwang Road, ☏ +86 579 8566 8007. 07:00-22:00. A modern multi-purpose sports complex, with indoor and outdoor facilities for basketball, football, tennis, badminton and other sports. The complex is used for sporting events and recreational activities.

- 7 Hengdian World Studios (横店影视城), Hengdian, Dongyang, Zhejiang, ☏ +86 579 86547211. Film studio used for the filming of Chinese period dramas, with a huge backlot featuring outdoor sets from different periods of Chinese history from the Qin Dynasty all the way up to the Republic of China era. Among the highlights is a replica of the Forbidden City, as well as a replica of the palace of Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of China. It is still in active use, and you could potentially catch some filming in action if you are lucky. In addition to Chinese period dramas, it is also often used in the filming of Korean period dramas for the scenes that are set in China. ¥180.

A large urban wetland park near Yiwu International Trade City, with lakes, green spaces, plants and walking paths. It is a popular place for walking, relaxing and enjoying the natural scenery. Free.
- 9 Yiwu Botanical Garden (义乌植物园), 355 Xicheng North Road (The garden can be reached by local bus. From Yiwu Railway Station, it is about 8.9 km to the P2 parking area.), ☏ +86 159 8850 1279. Open 24 hours. A large botanical garden in northwestern Yiwu, divided into five main areas and featuring a variety of plants, gardens and scenic landscapes. It is a popular place for walking, sightseeing and leisure activities.

- 3 Exotic Street (异国风情街), Binwang Business District. Open 24 hours. Explore Yiwu's international atmosphere at Exotic Street, a multicultural commercial area with restaurants, entertainment venues and shops. Visitors can walk through the district, try international food and experience one of Yiwu's most diverse neighbourhoods. Free.
- 4 Yiwu International Expo Centre (义乌国际博览中心), Jiangdong East Road, Yiwu. Attend trade fairs, exhibitions and other large events at Yiwu International Expo Centre. The centre hosts commercial and cultural events and is an important venue for Yiwu's international business activities.
- 5 Santing Road Night Market (三挺路夜市), 19 Santing Road. 18:00-03:00. A lively night market in Yiwu's Binwang commercial area. Visitors can browse clothing, accessories, toys, small commodities and souvenirs, as well as try street food and local snacks. The market is particularly lively in the evening and provides an opportunity to experience Yiwu's night-time atmosphere. Free.
- 6 Yiwu Jiming Pavilion (义乌鸡鸣阁), Jimingshan Park, Yidong Road. 24 hr. Climb to Yiwu Jiming Pavilion for views over the city. The pavilion features traditional Chinese architectural elements and is especially attractive after dark when it is illuminated. Visitors can walk around the surrounding hill, take photographs and enjoy views of central Yiwu.

[edit | edit source]The town has a large market with quite a range of goods. There are few Western residents, but many from India, Pakistan, and the Middle East. Many do some sort of import/export business. Binwang market has cloth, clothing, furnishings. International Trade City and the Futian Market has many small commodities including housewares, jewellery, beads, gifts, religious and seasonal goods.

Eat
[edit | edit source]Yiwu has a wide variety of restaurants serving Zhejiang, Chinese and international cuisines. The city's large international business community means that visitors can find food from many different countries, especially around the main commercial and market areas.
- Local cuisine — Zhejiang and Jiangzhe-style dishes are widely available. Local specialties and traditional Chinese dishes can be found in restaurants throughout the city.
- International cuisine — Yiwu has many restaurants serving Middle Eastern, Turkish, Indian, Korean and Japanese food. International restaurants are particularly common around the commercial areas and Choucheng district.
- Street food — Local markets and night-time food areas offer a variety of snacks and inexpensive meals.

- Coffee — Coffee shops can be found in major commercial areas and around hotels, offering both local and international styles of coffee.
