Beijing/Shijingshan

Shijingshan District (石景山区; Shíjǐngshānqū) is in the west part of Beijing.

Beijing Subway Line 6 and Line 1 reach Shijingshan, both providing a direct connection to central Beijing. Beijing Subway Line 11 provides a limited north–south connection through the district. The Beijing Subway S1 line is a maglev line running west to Mentougou District and the far western suburbs.

• 39.955116.1777781 Badachu (八大处; Bādàchǔ; lit. The Eight Great Sites) (take Bus 311 north from the Pingguoyuan subway station to Badachu Middle School (八大处中学; Bādàchǔ Zhōngxué) and then walk north-west one kilometer). Badachu is comprised of eight Buddhist temples and monasteries at the foot of the Western Hills. Restored in the 1980s, the whole area is now a park and popular tourist destination for Beijingers wishing to escape city life.  
• Hope Park (希望公园; Xīwàng Gōngyuán). A small but attractive park south-east of Badachu. 

• 39.9401116.15332 Fahai Temple (法海寺; Fàhǎi Sì) (About 20 minutes walk northeast from Moshikou Station (模式口站) on Subway Line 11). This 15th-century temple has some of the best-preserved and extensive Ming frescoes to be found.  
• Tianyi's Tomb (田义墓; Tiányì Mù), 80 Moshikou Dajie (模式口大街80号) (at the foot of Cuiwei Mountain and to the south of Fahai Temple). This is the most extensive and well-preserved Ming dynasty tomb of a eunuch. There is a Eunuch Culture Museum (¥8 entrance fee) at the same site. 
• 39.935556116.1649333 Cheng'en Temple (承恩寺; Chéng'ēn Sì), East Moshikou Dajie (模式口大街东部) (south of the Fahai Temple). This is another temple with a history of at least five hundred years.  
• 39.937498116.1621034 China Quaternary Glacier Museum (中国第四纪冰川陈列馆; Zhōngguó Dìsìjì Bīngchuān Chénlièguǎn), Moshikou Dajie (模式口大街) (just south of Fahai). This museum was founded in 1992 and offers an introduction to geology, geography, and glaciers.  
• Beijing International Sculpture Park (北京国际雕塑公园 Běijīng Guójì Diāosù Gōngyuán) (take subway line one to Yuqianlu), ☏ +86 10 68650422. Opened in 2002, this park places sculpture from around the world in an attractive, green setting. ¥5. 
• 39.907736116.2359645 Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery (八宝山革命公墓; Bābǎoshān Gémìng Gōngmù) (head north from the Babaoshan subway stop). Built as a temple, it was made into the chief cemetery for Communist Party figures. Buried here are artist Xu Feihong, writer Lao She, and many of the most important CCP leaders.  
• 39.979747116.1569416 Cishan Temple (天泰山慈善寺; Tiāntàishān Císhàn Sì) (on Tiantai Mountain). This is also known as Tiantai Temple. You will be lucky to see this one: the temple only opens March 15–17 of every year.  

• Shougang Industry Heritage Park tour (首钢工业旅游; Shǒugāng Gōngyè Lǚyóu) (Jin'anqiao Station (Lines 6 and 11, and S1)). A former steel production complex converted into an industrial heritage and cultural site. Guided tours explain the steel-making process and the history of the complex. Part of the former plant has been transformed into So Real, an intergalactic station-themed attraction where cosplayers gather. The blast furnace area is worth visiting during the day, but is particularly atmospheric at night, when the immense scale and emptiness of the complex become more apparent.

• 工人 bar. Upstairs bar overlooking the Shougang steelworks, located across the street west of the blast furnaces. The house specialty is the "Blast Furnace", a spicy cocktail featuring a generous dose of Tabasco sauce. (updated Jun 2026)

• Shangri-La Shougang Park (北京首钢园香格里拉). An unusual luxury hotel integrated into the former power plant of the Shougang steelworks. The industrial architecture has been incorporated into the hotel, while Power Station, the lobby restaurant and bar, is one of the most interesting hotel dining spaces at a contemporary five star hotel. (updated Jul 2026)
