Casma

Casma is a city in the Northern Coast of Peru.

There are frequent buses on the Panamerican highway, as well as colectivos, often old American cars for 6 people between Chimbote and Casma. There are day buses from Casma via the Callán Pass & Pariacoto to Huaraz, and mainly night buses via Pativilca to Huaraz. Further south, transport may be offered from Barranca and Supe to Caral.

Colectivos and motorcycle taxis may be hired to get around.

• -9.556667-78.2358331 Chanquillo. An archaeological site dated to the 4th century BC, from the Casma–Sechin culture. The complex is believed to have functioned as a solar observatory and fortified temple. In 2021 it was listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.  (updated Aug 2021)
