Cooch Behar (Bengali and Kamtapuri: কোচবিহার Kōchbihār) is a district of northern West Bengal with its own language, folk culture and lifestyle. Far away from the madding crowds of the metropolis, it has a quietness of its own.

[edit | edit source]While most people understand Standard Bengali, many of them speak Kamtapuri (কামতাপুরী Kāmtāpurī) at home, also called Rajbanshi (রাজবংশী Rājbongshī). Although often considered a Bengali dialect, Kamtapuri is actually more related to Assamese than Bengali.
