Dinhata (দিনহাটা Dinhāṭā), a town in North Bengal, is famous for the historical Gosanimari (গোসানিমারি Gosānimāri), which was the capital of Kamata and Khen dynasties.

Getting around the city in a busy day can be quite hectic. There are E- Rickshaws, public transportation like bus and rental cars. E- Rickshaw operators can charge huge fares on seeing a tourist. Usually e-rickshaw rides are short and cost about ₹10-₹15 per person (as of 2021). It is recommended to use e-rickshaws instead of public transport to go around in the city as public transport vehicles are packed with people, at least most of the times. Walkarounds are usually safe and can be done easily.

- 1 Dinhata Madan Mohan Temple (Balaram Temple), Main Road, Ward No-3. 8AM-9PM. A holy Hindu temple dedicated to the gods Krishna and Balaram.
- 2 Kamteswari Temple (কামতেশ্বরী মন্দির), Gosanimari. There have been various opinions about who built the temple because both the Khen and the Koch dynasties were worshippers of the goddess Kamteswari. It is now accepted that the original temple was destroyed and the present temple was built by Maharaja Pran Narayan of Cooch Behar in 1665. The main temple roof has been built in the Bengal cār cālā (চার চালা) style having a curved cornish with a circular dome atop. There are two entrances to the temple, the main entrance being on the west and another on the north. There is a nahabatkhana at the main entrance to the temple.
- 3 Rajpat (রাজপাট), Gosanimari, circlekolkata.asi@gov.in. Daily 8AM-6PM. Ruins of the palace of Khen rulers dated to the 14th-15th century CE. Excavations have surfaced many artefacts. It is said that a sage had cursed the palace, which made it slowly go down the surface. No entry fee.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Mahamaya Cinema, Rangpur Rd. 9AM-9PM. A great place to watch movies. Mostly Hindi and Bengali movies are aired. Online booking is not available so you need to book the tickets when you visit the theatre.
- 2 New Beltala Park, Bashintir Hat Rd. Always open. A nice open ground surrounded by long trees. It also has a temple.
- 3 Ful Dighi Park, Rangpur Rd. Daily 5–8am;4–9:30pm. Great place for morning walk. It has a boating dock with a descent sized pond. It also has a coffee stall.
- 4 Apurba Park, Madan Mohan Bylane. A great park near the famous Balaram temple.
- 5 Kamal Guha Memorial park, Rangpur Rd. A park for children in commemoration of Kamal Guha.

[edit | edit source]For refreshments, a cup of tea is the best. You can visit cafés for some espresso and soft drinks are available almost everywhere. For beers and alcohol, you can visit any good restaurant.

- 3 Mataji's Palace, Rangpur Road. A small apartment hotel. The food is a bit pricey here.
Connect
[edit | edit source]Cell phone coverage in the city is excellent. There are three major service providers offering a wide variety of plans. Among them are Airtel, Vodafone (now VI) and Jio. Airtel is the preferable one as it provides high quality calls and great internet speed all across the city. To call Dinhata from abroad you will need to dial the international prefix for your country, followed by India's country code +91. If you want to dial a landline no. from a mobile, then you have to add the area code of Dinhata, 03581 before the number.
Internet services are unreliable in some parts of the city. Most stores have broadband connections. Both the railway stations have free high-speed Wi-fi services but you need an Indian mobile number to register and receive the One-time password.
