Most of Juupajoki is covered by forest, and you should head out to pick berries. You get cloudberries in the swamps, and elsewhere there is a wealth of lingonberries.

You can also visit the area to fish. In the river you can find e.g. brown trout, and in the countryside there is pike and perch. For reel-and-rod fishing you need to pay the national fishing fee (if aged 18–65). Without reel, the right to access may suffice. For the river you probably need a day card regardless. One rod per person.

Drink

[edit | edit source]

Don't come here for nightlife. For that, head to Orivesi, Mänttä, Tampere or Jyväskylä.

  • The Kallenautio tavern: the best café substitute around.
  • Koskenjalan kenkämuseo: juice and icecream.

Sleep

[edit | edit source]

The camping ground is on the northern border of the municipality, next to the ski centre.

You might be able to find some agritourism farms.

Stay safe

[edit | edit source]

Juupajoki has a health centre, but in more serious cases you should go to Mänttä, Orivesi, Ruovesi or Tampere Central Hospital.

Go next

[edit | edit source]

En route to Ruovesi you pass by Ryövärinkuoppa ("robber's hole") and Helvetinkolu ("hell gorge"). Bon voyage!
