Orivesi is a city with large countryside in Pirkanmaa in the Finnish Lakeland, part of the metropolitan area of Tampere.
Understand
[edit | edit source]
The municipality has some 9,000 people (2026) on 960 km², 97% of whom have Finnish as mother tongue. More than two thirds of the population lives in Orivesi centre and the area around Orivesi station. Formerly Eräjärvi and Längelmäki were independent municipalities, but their centres are small.
The more than 350 lakes cover a 6th of the area, notably Längelmävesi (36th largest in Finland, or 9th if some connecting lakes at the same level are included).
Of 100 natural wonders that Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto chose at Finland's 100-year celebrations. two are in Orivesi: Eräpyhä and Pukala, which now are protected recreational areas.
