Kongu Nadu in western Tamil Nadu consists of 10 districts, namely Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Erode, Karur, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Salem and Tiruppur.

- 2 Kolli Hills — Hill Station near Namakkal.1,300 metres above sea level
- 3 Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve — part of the Nilgiri biosphere reserve, the sanctuary has the largest elephant population in the country. Located amongst the Western and Eastern Ghats, the park has a significant tiger and leopard population as well
- Mel Sidhar Koil — is also a place of interest which one can only trek on a full moon night
- Sithar Koil — is a village situated near Elampillai, a textile hub of Salem. The importance of this place is 'NEVER DRY SPRINGS' in 5 - 6 feet ponds, from herb-abundant mountain named 'Kanchamalai'. This mountain is rich with minerals and is said to be a small piece fallen from Hanuman's Sanjeevi Malai! The deity 'Siddheswarar' is a much worshipped god in and around the place. But, one should be careful with the monkeys
- Tharamangalam Temple — is 20 km. from Salem and can be reached by road via Salem Steel Plant. This place is famous for its architecture dating back to around 200 years. One of the important sculptures is Vali Vatham by Rama. Rama can see Vali but Vali cannot see Rama

[edit | edit source]- Anjaneyar Temple in Anapatti, 35 km from Dindigul, is said to be 300-year-old temple built by Queen of Madurai Rani Mangamma. The idol will be half buried when the water is in full flow here.
- Kunnuvarankottai Kasi Visalakshi Viswanathar temple — This 300-year-old temple near Viruveedu is an important pilgrimage point where devotees take holy bath in the rivers during auspicious days.
- Peranai — It is a reservoir and a fine picnic spot. Peranai is a unique confluence of waters from several dams — the Vaigai Dam, the Marudanadi Dam in Dindigul, the Manjalar, and Varahanadi Dams in Theni. It is approximately 35 km from Dindigul city.
- Sendraya Perumal Temple — This is an ancient temple of Sri Sendraya Perumal on a hill near old Batlagundu.
- Siddharmalai — A hillock north of Dindigul city. There is a large natural cavern on the southern side of the hillock called the Pancha Pandava Padukkai (Bed of the Five Pandavas'). There are two rows of beds with raised pillows chiselled out of the rock inside. There is an inscription on the rock face that traces the origin of the name of Madurai city — `Mathirai' (City of Walls).

[edit | edit source]Be careful at waterfalls as rocks may be slippery. Do not enter forests without permission and proper things like a torch (flashlight), drinking water, magnetic compass, food, adequate clothing, and maps as mobile signals are not available within some forests. Do not litter plastic wrappers or bottles in forests. Do not start a campfire in the jungle.
