Omeo

Omeo is a small town of 411 (2021) in Victoria's East Gippsland region. It sits close to the snowline and one of the only towns on the eastern end of the Victorian Alps. It is mainly a service town along the Great Alpine Road, thus having very little to see but plenty of accommodation options.

Omeo is on the B500 Great Alpine Road. From Bairnsdale, the town is about 122 km (76 mi) north, taking about 1 hour 40 minutes with no breaks. From the west, Omeo is about 53 km (33 mi) east of Mount Hotham (or about 45 minutes).

By bus

There is one daily bus service from Bairnsdale – the 14 Bairnsdale–Omeo[dead link] – on weekdays. On Mondays to Thursdays the bus leaves Bairnsdale Station at 1:25PM, arriving in at 4PM, while on Fridays the service leaves at 3:40PM and arrives at 6:15PM.

The Alps Bus Service by Dysons, runs thrice a week (on W F and Su), between Bright and Omeo via Dinner Plains.
