Sinjar

Shingal is a town in Iraq immediately south of Mount Sinjar (Shingal in Kurdish). Its population in 2013 was estimated at 88,023. The important Chermera temple (meaning '40 Men') is found on the highest peak of the Sinjar Mountains. The mountains reach a height of 1463 m above sea level. The Yazidis consider Mount Sinjar as sacred and have also used it as a place of refuge.
