I respectfully reverted your edit to South (United States of America), because while I won't dispute that Charlotte proper has become the most populous city in the South (I didn't check but have no reason to doubt this), its metro area is still so much less populous than, for example, Atlanta's, that it's misleading to call it the "largest city of the South". If you like, you could edit this to clarify.
