Hello TEMPO156! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian, then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- content assessment → article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub, as a reply below or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!

- @SHB2000: Thank you so much for your welcome! I have years of academic research experience and en-wiki writing on Afghanistan, and much of the info I'm adding is well-referenced in Wikipedia. But I don't think I've ever seen a refrerence list on Wikivoyage. Anything you can tell me about that? TEMPO156 (talk) 10:23, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- Not a problem! We don't usually use reference lists on Wikivoyage. The reason behind it can mostly be found at Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians#Style differences, with the main reason being that it's preferable that the links be inline or mentioned in prose to fit the style of writing you'd expect from a travel guide. //shb (t | c | m) 10:32, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
Your privacy and use of the Travel Tracker
[edit source]In April, Wikivoyage introduced the Travel Tracker (also known as "My Travel Map") in the user menu at top right. It has recently come to our attention that the initial version of the tool did not make clear that maps created through it are public and are associated with your account. Users who used the tool and published a map may have their map deleted by emailing a request for oversight. We apologize for this matter.
