About me
Hello, I'm a steward and Wikivoyager based in Sydney. I'm lucky to have traveled to over 20 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and my home Oceania. An interesting piece of trivia about me is that I have been to all four hemispheres, dipped my feet in all five oceans and visited every Australian state/internal territory except WA. That said, there are still many places that I dream of – southern and east Africa, most of South America, Antarctica, and many European and Asian countries that I hope to visit sometime soon.
I consider myself a mesomedian – I'm a cross-wiki patroller who is generally involved in anti-vandalism and routine maintenance matters. I hold steward permissions and am quite involved with global matters. I mostly spend my time doing cross-wiki maintenance, including processing speedy deletion requests on small wikis and other anti-vandalism work.
However, on the English Wikivoyage, I don't have a specific area of interest; as such, I routinely edit destinations from all over the world, though I do work a lot more on my home of New South Wales than other places. Remote, obscure, faraway places do also fancy me; I've started articles for many remote destinations that I'll probably never visit, like Île Amsterdam, Russian Arctic National Park, the Crozet Islands or many destinations in Nunavik in QC, just to name a few. Nevertheless, I still do a bit of Mosifying and copyediting throughout the site.
I also like working on park articles; I've created about 10% of this site's park articles. Feel free to give me suggestions on national parks to create (on my talk page) – or better yet, plunge forward and help expand Wikivoyage's coverage of park articles. There's also an expedition for that, which I started.
I'm someone who's particularly interested in geopolitics, astronomy, paleontology, caves, archeology and geology (though none of them are my professions). You may see me working on articles about these subjects. I'm also interested in random bits of trivia along with history and politics, although you may not see me actively on those last two categories – that's what Wikipedia is for.
I can help out with articles, templates or anything; I'll be sure to help out to the best of what I can. Either leave a message on my talk page, or leave me a {{ping}}. I also make .json lines (line markers) for itineraries as well, and can do one upon request using geojson.io, a useful tool to get a line marker. If you need any help with this, leave me a message and check out this easy tutorial. I can also help out with mapshapes and with getting you started on making one of these mapshapes, whether it's using OpenStreetMap data or drawing it out.
My Wikimedia activity
I'm honored to have made over 200,000 edits throughout Wikimedia. Editing Wikivoyage might be a hobby that I treasure, but I also equally enjoy editing other WMF projects. Wikimedia Commons is my second home wiki, where I mainly move and categorize files and have made over 50,000 edits.
Other WMF sites that I edit:
- Meta
- Wikimedia Commons (my second home wiki)
- English Wikibooks
- English Wikipedia
- French Wikivoyage
Out of the five wikis listed above, I am an administrator on the English Wikibooks and Meta-Wiki and a file mover and patroller on Wikimedia Commons; see my Meta-Wiki userpage for what I can, can't, will and won't do as an admin. I also have rollback on a few other projects, such as the English Wikipedia.
I also sporadically edit other wikis such as the Simple English Wikipedia or the Italian Wikivoyage (despite my it-0).
Notable things I've done
- I've created about 10% of all park articles and 1% of total articles on the English Wikivoyage.
- I made all articles breadcrumbed under Australia usable or above. This doesn't include articles not breadcrumbed under Australia, but part of Australia, such as Heard Island and McDonald Islands
- The number of French national parks that had articles went from zero to eleven; having created all of them, all are either usable or higher.
- I founded the Wikivoyage:National Parks Expedition.
- Many of the maplines such as the one on Quebec Route 389, E8 through Finland and Norway or Oxley Highway were traced by me.
- Adelaide was mostly districtified by me, with some assistance, while I entirely created the districts for Canberra.
- I made some heavy structural changes to the region structure of Guadeloupe.
Languages
I'm a native speaker of English and have basic knowledge of French. That being said, I'm not the best copyeditor out there, but I do translate articles from other-language Wikivoyages and Wikipedias to improve Wikivoyage's coverage of places. I use DeepL as my translator, which is mostly accurate and does the job.
