Maddela

Maddela (pronounced "mad-dela") is a municipality in Quirino.

Understand

[edit | edit source]

Maddela was originally an Ilongot settlement named Pinappagan, literally a place where payment was made, either a reference to its position as a trading site, or as a local legend says, a place were transgressors paid for their offenses with blood under tribal laws.

The town was renamed Maddela in 1950, the same year it became a municipality through the help of a congressman of Nueva Vizcaya (which then ruled over present-day Quirino) who pushed for its status and now shares his surname with the town in recognition for his efforts. It used to cover two-thirds of Quirino's land area until 1983, when much of its southern portion was separated to create the municipality of Nagtipunan.

It is home to about 42,000 people (census, 1 July 2024) "edit wikidata"
