San Gabriel is a town in La Union.
Understand
[edit | edit source]San Gabriel is a landlocked municipality established along the Baroro River in the triboundary between the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur and Benguet. It is a highland town in the Cordillera mountains and has significant Igorot communities. Formerly a part of the Amburayan subdistrict of Mountain Province, it was annexed by La Union in 1920.
It is home to about 19,000 people (census, 1 July 2024) 
Get in
[edit | edit source]San Gabriel is bypassed by Manila North Road (Route 2), the main thoroughfare in La Union. Instead, it is connected to the highway by roads leading to the neighboring coastal municipalities of Bacnotan and San Juan, which merge at a junction in San Gabriel between the public market and the municipal hall.
There are jeepneys connecting San Gabriel with San Juan.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Tangadan Falls, Amontoc. The town's main tourist attraction, it is a 50 feet (15 m) cascade along the upper reaches of the Baroro River at the boundary with the municipality of Bagulin. The waterfalls are commonly included in package tours from San Juan and a common itinerary for travelers in La Union.
- 2 Mount Mugong, Bayabas. The highest mountain in La Union, with a height of 1,520 metres (4,990 ft). Its summit offers views extending as far as Benguet.
- 3 Dupagan Falls, Lon-oy. A cascade along a gorge that is also used as a hydropower source for a nearby plant.
