Santol is a town in La Union.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Named after the local term for Sandoricum koetjape, a fruit-bearing tree, Santol is a landlocked municipality established at the foothills of the Luzon Cordilleras. Its area extends through down to the Amburayan River bordering the highland town of Sugpon in Ilocos Sur and Benguet, and is home to significant Igorot communities. Formerly a part of the Amburayan subdistrict of Mountain Province, it was annexed by La Union in 1920.
It is home to about 15,000 people (census, 1 July 2024) 
Get in
[edit | edit source]Santol is bypassed by Manila North Road (Route 2), the main thoroughfare in La Union. Instead, it is connected to the highway by a road leading to the neighboring coastal municipality of Balaoan.
Get around
[edit | edit source]Tricycles are the main form of transportation in town. However, some of the mountain areas can only be reached by either 4WD or hired motorcycle.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Balay Anito Falls, Sitio Banbanaba, Lettac Sur. Meaning "House of the Spirits", it is a cascade that drops down to a 20 metres (66 ft) deep pool.
- 2 Puy-ocan Falls, Sapdaan. A secluded cascade whose crashing waters produce a mist-like effect.
- 3 Simminublan Falls, Sitio Bilagan, Puquil. A cascade whose name derives from the cooking pot-like shape of its basin.
- 4 Lengsad Falls, Sitio Inasan, Tubaday. A cascade leading down to the Amburayan River.
- 5 Sasaba Rice Terraces, Sasaba. A terraced farming complex on the slopes of the Cordillera Mountains.
- 6 Meditation Cross, Poblacion. A large concrete cross overlooking downtown Santol that is commonly visited during Holy Week.
