Expedition Refresh
[edit | edit source]The Brazil Expedition is a Wikivoyage Expedition to promote and coordinate collaboration to improve Wikivoyage's articles pertaining to Brazil. If you'd like to join the effort, please add your signature to the bottom of the page!
Rationale
[edit | edit source]Brazil is an enormous country, bigger than the continental US and taking up almost half of South America, with a wide range of climates, cultures, cities, nature, attractions, and activities. The country received a record 9.28 million visitors in 2025. Our current coverage of Brazil needs a great deal of attention; currently there are only three states above outline status, only 11 guide-status articles, and not a single star. This Expedition exists to clarify exactly what needs to be done in pursuit of our goals for articles related to Brazil, identify avenues for potential collaboration, and generate enthusiasm towards achieving our goals.

Remember a reasonable Get in section, as well as listings, is needed to make usable.
Aims
[edit | edit source]The current long-term goals of this expedition are:
- Bring the Brazil country article status to Usable.
- Bring every region and state listed in the main country article to Usable.
- Get all destinations listed in Cities and Other destinations in the main country article to Guide.
- Get our first Brazilian Star article, and our second, third, fourth...
References
[edit | edit source]These references may help you in researching new content for our Brazil articles.
- Wikivoyage Portuguese - The most obvious reference, has articles which are better developed than what we have, and some we don't have at all. That guide, however, is mostly inactive, so information is not always up to date, and should be checked. Even if you don't know Portuguese, you can probably understand at least the names and contact details of attraction, activity, restaurant, and hotel listings that have been recommended there, which is in many cases more than we have here, and which can serve as starting points for further research.
- EMBRATUR - Ministry of Tourism site in English [1] and Portuguese [2].
- Turismo Brasil [3] - Another government tourism site, this one only in Portuguese.
Article status charts
[edit | edit source]| Legend
|
This is the article status tracker for important tourist destinations of Brazil. These lists by no means represent all the articles we currently have or should have in the future, but serve as a tracking mechanism for articles travelers are most likely to read or find the most useful. If you feel like focusing on a small city, a less known park or anything else related to Brazil not listed here, please do so! We'd love to have greater coverage of less-known destinations, and your enthusiasm and personal knowledge are extremely valuable.
If you have upgraded an article's status and need to change the tracker color, edit this section, find the line which contains the destination name, and change the color to: "Red" for no article, "OrangeRed" for a stub, "Orange" for an outline, "Yellow" for a usable article, "PaleGreen" for a guide and, hopefully one of these days, "LimeGreen" for a star.
Country
[edit | edit source]| Brazil |
Getting a country to Usable requires all 18 of the destinations listed in Cities and Other destinations to be at least Usable as well. Aside from that, we fulfill the other requirements. The article could use some work when it comes to writing and up to date information beyond the raw status requirements.
Regions
[edit | edit source]| North
| Northeast | |
| Central West | |
| Southeast | |
| South |
These articles have been fairly neglected, and while they don't need to be as in-depth as bottom-level articles, the regional lines are a fairly defining part of Brazil, so much so that locals identify themselves as much based on their region than their state or city, sometimes more so. Travelers would find great value in such information, as each region provides its own distinct experience and attractions. Major cities and attractions listed in a region must be at least Usable too, but not necessarily all of them.
States
[edit | edit source]Much like regions, those articles need a lot of attention due to how much they define the experience of the traveler. The requirements are the same as regions, so to fulfill our goal of hitting Usable status, we must make sure most destinations listed within them are Usable as well.
Main destinations
[edit | edit source]
|
|
Those articles are the bulk of where the work has gone, so we have a lot of progress already made! Getting these to a high standard of quality is essential, so this expedition is aiming to get all of these to Guide level. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the only districtfied cities, so we must make sure all their districts are at least Usable alongside improvements to the main city article.
