Wikivoyage:Abuse filters

Wikivoyage is a transparent project: we don't deny that we use abuse filters to prevent some classes of non-constructive user actions. Unfortunately the filters sometimes stop constructive edits, and some may be outright misconfigured. If you feel that a filter is not compliant with our policies, please start a discussion on the talk page or the travellers' pub.

If your edit was disallowed for no good reason, try to contact an administrator or ask on the travellers' pub. An edit on your user talk page, with full sentences and without any URL or heated language, might have the best prospect of getting through, if there is a draconian filter in place (probably by misconfiguration). Give an edit summary that states that you want attention from an admin.

Not all abuse filters are in place to prevent abuse – some filters simply exist to highlight any potential style issues (if any) – don't worry too much if one of your edits was tagged as such.

The block feature of the abuse filters is enabled, but should be used very restrictively. It should be considered only on filters against long-term abuse, where the normal filters have proven ineffective, and it should cause a block of at most 60 minutes with email and talk-page access open and with a link to a help page in the block message.

The filter must be designed so that false positives are very unlikely and it must have a clear history of 15 hits, be thoroughly reviewed and be in use for 1 week of having no false positives before the feature is enabled on it. The intension of enabling the feature and the act of enabling it must be announced in the filter's comments, with date and user name of the admin stated. Any intended changes to the filter must likewise be announced, reviewed and tested.
