Bamboi

Bamboi is a town in Bole District in the Savannah Region of Ghana, on the Volta Basin region of the Black Volta River. It marks the boundary between Savannah and Bono Region and is the main crossing point for traffic between Kumasi and Wa. Known for its long bridge, river fishing, and as a truck stop town.

Bamboi grew as a Gonja and Mo fishing settlement and ferry crossing. When the Bamboi Bridge was built over the Black Volta, it became a key north-south transport link and market town.

Mixed Gonja, Mo, Brifor, Dagaaba, and Akan traders. Gonja, Mo, Twi, and Hausa spoken. English in schools. Islam and Christianity both present.

Hot Guinea savanna, slightly more humid due to river.

Linear town along Kumasi-Wa highway. Bridge at south end, market and lorry station in the centre.

By car From Kumasi: 5-6 hr via Wenchi. GH₵80-130 (Aug 2026). From Wa: 4-5 hr via Sawla and Bole. GH₵80-120 (Aug 2026). From Bole: 1-1.5 hr. From Techiman: 3-4 hr.
