I plan to do more on this page, but am new to WikiVoyage

[edit]

I've done a decent amount of wikipedia editing, but would like to pause with this too have someone check my work if possible. I've read the rules but want to make sure I'm doing things correctly. BrunoBosque (talk) 16:06, 12 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Name

[edit]

Which name is used most in English? We need to go with that and not have another name in parentheses in the title. The name in the local language (or an English translation of it) should be given in parentheses in the first sentence of the article, instead. So which name should we go with for the article? Is there a need to have this and Aguacate Mountains Biological Corridor?

[edit]

Title – would it help travellers to combine both into one? I don't know much about the area, however. //shb (t | c | m) 08:29, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Though I think Aguacate Mountains Biological Corridor should be me merged here, not the other way around (as I initially suggested). //shb (t | c | m) 08:30, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
User:BrunoBosque, your opinion, please. I chose the English-language name for the article without your input, but we need your expertise on the question raised in this thread. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:27, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Locally it is called the spanish name. So I'm not sure what the convention is. When you write about a place, do you translate the name of the place / region. I have seen it done both ways so would like some guidance. But the Biological Corridor is a government managed area within the mountains that just happens to have the same name (it would be similar to a forest reserve in Canada or the US). A North American example would be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountains_Forest_Reserve (which is a managed area by the government) which is within the Rocky Mountains. I can merge them onto one page if you prefer. The Biological corridor is much smaller than the mountain range and is really a unique entity. BrunoBosque (talk) 23:48, 19 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
The convention is laid out at Wikivoyage:Naming conventions. Whatever name is most used in English should be the article title. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:54, 19 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I hear it referred to both ways. So my gut is saying let's use "Aguacate Mountains" (Assuming it's OK to go with your gut. I do think the Corridor should have its own page though if that is acceptable. I'm trying to get more info from local businesses and plan to continue to work on both these pages, if it is OK. The "Biological Corridor" is a conservation area designated by the Costa Rican government (SINAC) that has defined bountaries. It shares the same name as the moutains range and is within the mountians, but I believe it should get it's own page. I live in Palmares Costa Rica and believe the locals would consider these things very different. I belive in North America you often have protected areas within a mountain range that share the same name as the mountaiins they are within (and I appologize for my english, it is not my first language) MarisolMata7 (talk) 14:18, 20 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Both of you are doing fine, but neither of you have addressed the question of -why- it's most useful for travelers for there to be two articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:21, 20 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also I do very much recognize the differences – it's not uncommon to see such at all. But I do think this can be handled in a paragraph under Understand explaining the differences, since Wikivoyage categorizes articles according to the travellers' perspective. //shb (t | c | m) 23:22, 20 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
We need more discussion. This article seems like mostly a long list, and Wikivoyage has a policy called avoid long lists. But I just don't see how it is useful to keep this as separate from the other article, which is about part of this area. Therefore, I think we should merge everything from the more developed biological corridor article into this one. Also, please note how I fixed this article's Wikivoyage:Breadcrumb navigation. The biological corridor (or whatever we will call it in English) is part of this mountain range, not the reverse. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:44, 28 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

I set "IsPartOf" to Costa Rica, but that's wrong because there are several region articles. So which region are these mountains part of? Central Valley (Costa Rica), apparently? If they aren't all in that region, this will have to be turned into a Wikivoyage:Extraregion. I'll change IsPartOf for now, but I hope we have some answers from people who know.
