Welcome, and some pointers

[edit source]

Hello Guoyi9256! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you are a Wikipedian, then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:

It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub, as a reply below or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!

Note that we don't include default address info on this site, so for example, Kunming needs to be excluded and removed from all addresses in the Kunming article. Also, the "directions" tab is shown as a parenthetical phrase and therefore must be written without an initial capital letter or a period. Please make the appropriate edits, thanks, and please carry on!

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:29, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Guoyi9256, we need for you to pay attention to the instructions from your instructor and the tips you get on your user talk page. If you continue including Kunming in addresses on the Kunming page, we'll have to temporarily block your editing privileges to get your attention. Or will you pay attention now? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:21, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reminder. I understand the listing format now and I have corrected the addresses and directions in my recent Kunming edits. I’ll follow this format in future edits. Guoyi9256 (talk) 03:08, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Good. I appreciate that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:29, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The "Get in" section

[edit source]

I don't know why so many people are confused so often about the meaning of "Get in". It doesn't mean "Leave". So, for example, you shouldn't write as you did in this edit that "Yuxi Railway Station is served by trains to Kunming and other destinations in Yunnan." I think that may also be literally wrong. I might say that railway station is served by trains that arrive but that other stations are served by trains that depart. In reality, though, I'd probably just say "You can take trains from X, Y and Z to Yuxi Railway Station". You don't have to use my colloquial style of English, but please make sure "Get in" sections describe arriving and not departing trains, and if you would like to provide details on how to go elsewhere, do that in "Go next." Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:20, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for pointing this out and for explaining the distinction. I understand now that the “Get in” section should focus on how travellers arrive in Yuxi, while information about departing for other destinations belongs in “Go next.” I have revised the train section accordingly. Thank you again for your helpful guidance. Guoyi9256 (talk) 08:03, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing, and thank you! Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:21, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Don't say what hotels are "close" to

And please read wv:dt about that. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:13, 16 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Same error again

[edit source]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikivoyage articles.

As your assignment page says: "Common error to avoid: you should add an address (street, building number, etc.) to your listing but do not repeat the city name. For example, if your listing is in Ansan, the address does not need to contain the city name." That also means you do not include the province and country name.

Ikan Kekek explained this to you above, but now you have made the same error in the Lufeng, Weishan, Deqin, Pu'er, and Liuku articles.

You must make correction to these articles before you make other edits. Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 02:29, 22 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Guoyi9256: you must make these corrections, or you will be blocked from editing. Ground Zero (talk) 12:22, 25 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It looks like you've been duly warned, and you're continuing to do this, so I've blocked you for an initial period of 3 days. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:32, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
If possible, I would also like to ask whether the block could be lifted early so that I can make the necessary corrections.
I understand why I was blocked, and if I am unblocked, I will only correct the existing address errors first before making any new edits.
Thank you for considering my request. Guoyi9256 (talk) 11:46, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'll unblock you for that purpose. Please be more careful going forward. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:49, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for explaining this. I understand the issue now.
After the block expires, I will first correct the address fields in Lufeng, Weishan, Deqin, Pu'er, and Liuku, removing the city, province, and country names where they are unnecessary. I will make these corrections before making any new edits.
I apologize for repeating the same error, and I will follow the Wikivoyage listing guidelines more carefully. Guoyi9256 (talk) 11:44, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for making the corrections. Ground Zero (talk) 15:13, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
