Here we determine which articles are featured on the Main Page as Destination of the month (DotM), Off the Beaten Path (OtBP) and Featured travel topics (FTT).
Nominate
[edit source]You can nominate any article you would like to see featured. Any destination, region, itinerary or event that passes the "What is an article?" test is eligible for nomination.
However, before nominating, please check that the article follows these basic guidelines:
- The nominated article should have an article status of guide or star. This includes having at least one good picture, and listings/headers/etc. that match our manual of style.
- The nominated article must not have been featured since Wikivoyage became a WMF project in 2013.
- If the article has been nominated previously but failed, any objections should be addressed before nominating it again.
- Check the slush pile.
- If you think a once-slushed destination is now ready to go, list it as new, but with a pointer to the slush pile entry.
- The article should preferably be nominated 3 to 12 months before the intended feature date; ready to feature as is, or with edits that can be done well before featuring.
Well-known and/or popular destinations should be nominated as Destination of the Month, while more obscure destinations should be nominated for Off the Beaten Path. Featured Travel Topic includes travel topics, phrasebooks, itineraries, and other articles not part of the geographic hierarchy, as well as airports, railway stations, and public transportation networks, as these are not usually destinations in their own right. Where applicable, you should propose a good time to visit the destination as a month to be featured.
The basic format of a nomination is as follows:
Add a nomination to the end of the appropriate section.
Discuss
[edit source]You can comment on any nomination based on timeliness and adherence to the criteria above, just add a bullet point (*) and your signed opinion.
===Destination=== Great article and it's just luvvly-jubbly in the springtime. TravelNut 25:25, 31 Feb 2525 (UTC) * Looks nice, but shouldn't the Do section contain more than just quilting contests? ~~~~ Please note that the following are not considered valid reasons to oppose a nomination:
- "I don't like it." All objections have to be based on the guidelines above: poor formatting, missing information, etc. Personal opinions, dislikes, etc. do not count.
- "Wrong time of year." Articles are supported or opposed based on their content. Timing can be worked out later.
- "Wrong type of place." Articles are supported or opposed based on their content. Whether it's DotM or OtBP can be worked out later.
Select
[edit source]If an article gets three comments in favor and no (unresolved) comments against, it's eligible to be placed in an appropriate time-slot in the Upcoming queue. If the objections are relatively minor and are being worked on, add them to the Upcoming queue tentatively (add a question mark "?" after the article). Feel free to move the queue around or swap articles if it makes sense. If a nomination clearly does not make the grade and if the objections are not easily fixable, they go into the Slush pile (current slush pile).
Once a nomination has been scheduled, an appropriate banner image and text blurb must be selected. Go to Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates/Banners to start that discussion.
Archive
[edit source]Discussions for previously selected destinations are kept in the Archive.
Upcoming
[edit source]Schedule
[edit source]The following queue should contain about the next few months' worth of upcoming destinations. Note that new DotMs are rotated in on the 1st of each month, OtBPs on the 11th and travel topics on the 21st.
| Month | DotM | OtBP | FTT |
|---|---|---|---|

| January 2027 | Malacca - pending fixes and stronger consensus to support | Salla - pending fixes and stronger consensus to support | Milford Road - pending stronger consensus to support |
| February 2027 | Cancún - pending fixes (?) and stronger consensus to support | Três Coroas - pending stronger consensus to support | Albanian phrasebook - pending stronger consensus to support |

Try to represent each inhabited continent at least once a year, and to avoid long streaks of features from the same continent. Try to avoid overlapping or back-to-back features from the same country, or within a day's non-flight journey. It is customary to wait 24 months between articles from the same city, or within commuting distance.
The schedule is not cast in stone. However, any change made to the schedule should have a compelling reason behind it, and should be effected as far in advance as possible of the article's scheduled term on the Main Page. In particular, unless absolutely necessary, we discourage nominee articles from being slushed or rescheduled after banners have been made for them, which usually happens 2–3 months before being featured.
Whenever an article becomes a current feature, it should be removed from the list, the discussion archived, and (when changing out Featured Travel Topics) a new month added to the end of the queue.
Next changes
[edit source]Decisions regarding which images to use as the banners are made at Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates/Banners.
The section below provides an opportunity to see what the upcoming featured articles will look like on the Main Page using the banners that are currently most popular on the above page.
Updating
[edit source]On the date of the scheduled change, the DotM, OtBP, or FTT should be changed as close to midnight UTC as possible. This can only be done by administrators. When the featured page is changed, please follow the following procedures to do so and archive content to the appropriate pages. At each stage, please double-check that you are correctly moving content. Several steps involves copy pasting of the file names of the Main Page banners – former, current, and next – so it can be useful to open those in tabs first.
- Update the featured articles on the main page by replacing the current 'banner' template section with those of the appropriate banner for the new DotM/OtBP/FTT found in the Next change section above.
- Update the Photo credits page with the banner's original image, title and attribution.
- Add the former featured article to the appropriate archive page: Previous Destinations of the month, Previously Off the beaten path, or Previous Featured travel topics.
- For the former featured article, add the appropriate parameter to the pagebanner template (directly after the image filename) to label the page as having been featured previously.
- For former DotMs, add: |dotm=yes
- For former OtBPs, add: |otbp=yes
- For former FTTs, add: |ftt=yes
- Remove Template:Featurenomination from newly featured article.
- Archive the newly featured article's nomination. Simply cut-and-paste the nomination section of the newly featured article from this page to Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates/Archive.
- Update the Next change section above by adding the banner from the discussion page. View the table in the Schedule section above to determine what next month's change will be, then update the image and blurb in the "Next change" section with that found in the upcoming featured article's nomination.
- In the schedule, use <s> and </s> to strikethrough the newly featured article. Remove the row from the table if the newly featured article is the FTT.
- Archive the newly featured article's banner by cutting-and-pasting all banner suggestions and the associated discussion into Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates/Banners/Archive.
Nominations for Destination of the Month

- Close. Many listings need some updates (some haven't been updated in almost a decade!), but in terms of content, I don't think anything major is missing to my knowledge. //shb (t | c | m) 00:24, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- Support, but the listings should be checked a little before we run it (towards the end of 2026?). It's not that we haven't featured many Californian articles over the years, we've actually featured quite a number of them but none of them from the greater LA area. --Ypsilon (talk) 18:31, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- We featured San Diego International Airport in November-December. It is not close enough to invoke a 24 month cooldown; featuring Hollywood for the 2026-27 winter would be reasonable. Do the Oscars or the Golden Globes provide any events for the public? /Yvwv (talk) 14:00, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- There are apparently some events with a limited number of places such as the Official Oscars Watch Party, and for "just" $70,000 you can buy a ticket to the Golden Globes. So yes, but it's not something you can decide to do on a whim on the day of the events. We should point this out in the article if we run it during the Academy Awards or Golden Globes (which we possibly will). --Ypsilon (talk) 17:39, 26 April 2026 (UTC)

- Almost – needs some updates, which I am progressively doing. //shb (t | c | m) 08:47, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support - a lot of listings and they all have descriptions and other content. As with most articles, we need to check if the places in the listings are still there a little before they go on the main page. --Ypsilon (talk) 18:55, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support - love the nicely informative listings in this articleǃ Don't so much love the highly unusable dynamic map, jam-packed with colorful pins creating so much clutter one can't see where anything is or how the city is laid out. I have no good suggestion for fixing the problem, but the map as it exists isn't much use to a typical traveler. Mrkstvns (talk) 22:15, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support - Comprehensive, well-organized and an engaging read. Gerode (talk) 18:54, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
| Place: Royan | Nomination |
- Support (as the one translating the article some years ago) but as always there may be dead links, places that have closed etc, which needs to be checked optimally 1-3 months before feature. Autumn is full but say May or June 2027 could be good times to run it. --Ypsilon (talk) 19:42, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support per Ypsi. //shb (t | c | m) 23:17, 22 August 2026 (UTC)
- Support pending updates, as this article hasn't had any substantive contributions since it was translated four years ago. Gerode (talk) 19:26, 1 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support pending updates per comment. --Ypsilon (talk) 19:42, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support pending updates, this article is in pretty good shape. The Events section is a little odd, and there's some light copyediting to do in Get In/Get Around. Gerode (talk) 19:40, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support pending updates, per above. //shb (t • c) 02:04, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support, though a few more photos here and there would be nice. --Ypsilon (talk) 14:25, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- Needs work. I appreciate the article and I did some work on it, but the prose can still be more tight and effective. While that is a requirement primarily for star articles, I think more needs to be done before featuring. Some things could, e.g., be moved from By bus to Bus travel in Mexico or Mexico#By bus (unless they are common sense globally), such as "When you are ready to get off, you can either push the button on top of the hand rail, or if you're not sure of your destination, tell the driver where you would like to get off or point to the destination using a bus map." – I doubt this is unique to Cancún. I also doubt that we need a whole screenful to explain how to use the local taxis. I am also a bit worried about the description of Cancún as "the gateway to the Mayan World" – formerly also "home of the Mayan archaeological wonders" – as there are Mayan wonders all around the Yucatán, and the archaeological sites of Cancún aren't even mentioned in Maya civilization (other than in the description of Museo Maya de Cancún). How important are the local sites compared to those elsewhere? Which article should be tweaked? –LPfi (talk) 14:03, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Carnival is in February. Is it worth to visit? /Yvwv (talk) 15:38, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Cancun is not known for its Carnival celebrations however the February timeframe is ideal for beach experiences as the crowds from Christmas vacations are gone and the crowds for Spring Break have yet to arrive. February is the most peaceful month of Cancun's annual "high season"....great weather but few crowds. Mrkstvns (talk) 15:17, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
- Carnival is in February. Is it worth to visit? /Yvwv (talk) 15:38, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Close. Cancun is the first international trip for a lot of Americans, so I'm willing to tolerate a little Captain Obvious in here. Even so, I agree with LPfi that there's some tightening to do in Get Around, Stay Healthy, and Stay Safe. I'm also confused by contradictory prose on Mayan sites, and I expected to find more content about the beaches, as that's what a lot of people come for. Gerode (talk) 19:52, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Close per Gerode. //shb (t • c) 02:05, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support I visited Nürnburg last December and can't see anything missing from the article. That said, I would probably save it for December 2027 for the Weihnachtsmarkt. //shb (t | c | m) 12:24, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- Unless we find more world-famous Christmas-themed destination such as previous Rovaniemi or the Vatican (Bethlehem isn't a good destination now), it makes sense to feature a city with a nice Christmas market for December, as there aren't many other reasons to visit Central Europe (except ski resorts) that time of the year. /Yvwv (talk) 14:30, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
| Place: Oslo Sentrum | Nomination |
- Support, but
schedule-wise I think we will have to postpone this until 2028. This would otherwise not just be the 4th Nordic feature in the first half of 2027, but we also do not have enough months to put all the European DotM nominations in next summer.listings need to be checked for up-to-dateness as usual. Overall, I'm starting to think that we should be able to run any article during any time of the year (i.e. scrap the "time to feature" requirement), this would help scheduling a lot. As for Norway being under-featured, well, we just ran Barentsburg as OtBP in July. Ypsilon (talk) 16:45, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
| Place: Mexico City | Nomination |
- Question: is there a reason why Interlomas under Mexico City#Districts is a redlink? I can't really support a feature when one of the linked districts doesn't have an article on this site. //shb (t • c) 08:52, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- Someone must have been planning to create a district article for Interlomas, which shouoldn't really be here anyway since it is actually in the suburban municipality of Huixquilucan, which lies over the boundary with Mexico State. I've removed the redlink for now and will include info about Interlomas when I work on the article for Huixquilucan. BTWː I'm working (very slowly) on re-organizing the districts and replacing the map with one that more accurately depicts the city and where we don't have vast undefined gray areas (every place in the city will have an appropriate article where info can be placed). Feel free to leave comments about this in the Talk page. Mrkstvns (talk) 14:59, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'd missed this message, but thanks for removing the link! Looking forward to the reorganisation you're planning to make. (I'll probs hold off voting until you've finished with that) //shb (t • c) 02:11, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Very close per comment. Ypsilon (talk) 19:05, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Very honoured, as the person who wrote the bulk of this article in my early days on this site – many thanks for the nomination, Ypsi :). That said, though, I think it would be more suited as a DotM – the region receives 700k visitors a year; I can't think of many other nature-based destinations in Australia that would probably fit the DotM category better. //shb (t | c | m) 12:29, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- OK, in that case it would work better as a DotM. I probably sort of read between the lines that this would be a relatively "untouched" rainforest with little tourist infrastructure and a low number of visitors = OtBP. --Ypsilon (talk) 18:12, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
- Moved to DotM per SHB's suggestion. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:28, 20 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support - shorter than I like, but for a remote island with almost no infrastructure to speak of, it's fine: seems like a great place to relax and get away from crowds of humanity. Mrkstvns (talk) 03:27, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

| Place: Port Angeles | Nomination |
- Comment - I pass through here once or twice every summer, so I'm happy to update listings and fill in with on-the-ground information. I've never spent much time in town though, I think for most travellers it's a pit stop/logistics hub for Olympic National Park. I'm trying to decide whether I want to endorse this destination or get the ONP article endorsable instead. Gerode (talk) 02:38, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- We can certainly feature Olympic National Park (as DotM maybe?), though there would need to be a minimum of two years between them as the places are next to each other. Right now the Port Angeles article is in a better shape. --Ypsilon (talk) 09:24, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support - I just had a chance to visit again, and was pleasantly surprised to find enough here to warrant a feature. I'll integrate my observations and find some good pics in the next few days. Gerode (talk) 22:16, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Support, but listings need to be checked for up-to-dateness before we run the article, e.g. many listings are from 2017-18, soon a decade old. As there's more than a year until we will feature Port Angeles, there is no point in doing that now. --Ypsilon (talk) 09:24, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

| Place: Toucheng | Nomination |
- Very very close per comment. Ypsilon (talk) 19:05, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Needs work. Get around has no information, but how to get to the island (that subsection says you need a permit but nothing about how to get it without using a tour company). Some copy editing is also needed, to get more fluent and enjoyable language (remove some of the "known for" "in Toucheng" and other repetitiveness and redundancies). Perhaps Eat and Sleep could be split into subsections. –LPfi (talk) 14:03, 15 August 2026 (UTC)
- Some days ago when I nominated the article, there was some info in the article about getting around the town (by bus and rental bike), this has been moved up to Get in by User:Sunfish Dash. Also back then the island and its attractions wasn't mentioned. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:34, 15 August 2026 (UTC)
- I think it was me who moved it, as I saw it as related to getting in by bus, not so much getting around. I agree that renting a bike 5 km away is doable (Jiaoxi is a neighbouring township), but stops on the way between the two don't help if you want to explore the rest of the township (the remaining 30 km of coastline). Are there no bike rentals in Toucheng itself? No public transport? If so, it needs to be told. Apparently coaches can take you to some "major destinations" and there are local trains. That information was and remains in Get in, but has been clarified a bit by Sunfish Dash. It should be expanded on and at least referred to in Get around. –LPfi (talk) 19:40, 15 August 2026 (UTC)

- Exactly. Addresses haven't reached Rote yet. That's why I just gave the locale names (where it matters). Brycehughes (talk) 10:53, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- tbh I doubt addresses are particularly important nowadays, even for places with addresses – I'd assume most people nowadays just enter the venue name into their navigation app of choice. //shb (t | c | m) 13:01, 18 September 2026 (UTC)

- Needs some work; in addition to what SHB mentioned there are also many listings that need a description, especially in Eat and Drink. Some more photos, especially in the latter half of the article would also be nice. Other than that, thanks to MMorell for greatly improving our coverage of Catalonia over the last years, and it's really about time to showcase one of these articles on the Main Page. --Ypsilon (talk) 17:52, 25 September 2026 (UTC)

Nominations for Featured travel topic
[edit source]| Place: Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay/Pinnacle | Nomination |
- Support as usual with the Star dive articles. However as of now there is a discussion going on about some of the author's works on Wikipedia including plagiarism. --Ypsilon (talk) 19:20, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: We have had a recommended 24-month cooldown time between nearby destinations. "Nearby" is most practically defined as commuting distance, which would be two places which could reasonably be experienced on the same day or from the same accommodation, without lengthy transportation. If we follow the guideline strictly, this article could first feature in January 2027; in my opinion, December 2026 would not be too early. We have many great Cape Peninsula dive guides left, and African destinations as well as diving articles are under-featured. /Yvwv (talk) 22:47, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

- Support, but we might need to hold this article off for some time if we're also going to feature Tagalog phrasebook. //shb (t | c | m) 23:36, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- Needs work. There's a lot of content and some of it is good, but sections like Filipino cuisine#Filipino diet need a thorough copyedit. There are also quite a few bits that just list Tagalog/slang names of dishes with no explanation: Offal is main ingredient of dishes like bopis, dinuguan, La Paz batchoy and sisig and street food like adidas, Betamax or dugo, and isaw. Asamboi (talk) 06:29, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- This page also really needs a more appetizing-looking banner. Asamboi (talk) 10:13, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose doesn't meet criteria to be featured as it is usable (should be guide or star to be featured). Needs more info: any places to eat or sleep along the route? Lede paragraph is weak....sounds wishy-washy, especially when it begins with "Possibly". I'd love to see it developed further and will gladly re-visit the article. Mrkstvns (talk) 12:46, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'd forgotten to upgrade it when nominating it, but the reason why none of those are mentioned is because the article was intentionally written in such a way to avoid duplicating Fiordland National Park. I'll come to rewrite some of it in the upcoming few days and clarify a few things. //shb (t | c | m) 13:02, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

- Support - yes, indeed it's time to have a phrasebook nominated to run in the beginning of 2027 and this is a good one with all words and phrases translated and transcribed. When I feel inspired I will add some pictures from Commons along the text to make it a bit more happier, as usual. --Ypsilon (talk) 14:19, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

- Needs work I really want to like this article because we need more cycling articles on the site, but this one isn't really particularly strong. It's been promoted to guide, but really doesn't feel like it earned that status since many sections are not fully developed and it is particularly lacking in recommended areas with good cycling infrastructure. The lede paragraph is weak and the banner isn't really appropriate to the topic since it communicates nothing at all about cycling. I hope this article can be better developed because it has potential. Mrkstvns (talk) 02:41, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
- I agree the "Tour cycling" section could be expanded, although IMHO this should mostly consist of pointers to itineraries or regions. Other than that, though, which specific sections do you feel are lacking?
- And the banner shows a portion of the Shimanami Kaido, by far Japan's most famous cycling route. Asamboi (talk) 01:19, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- So you say. To me it looks like a busy bridge over a waterway. If it's a famous cycling route, then where's the bikes? Mrkstvns (talk) 04:43, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- On the bridge and thus approximately 0.5 pixels high, since the two objects are at vastly different scales. The proposed lead image fits them into the same frame, but can't turned into a banner. Asamboi (talk) 07:58, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- One can add a caption, seen on hovering. That way readers don't need to recognise the image to tell its relevance. I did that now. –LPfi (talk) 08:10, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- A far better solution is to choose a better banner image that captures some of the magic of cycling in Japan and not praying that a reader will see non-existant bikes or read a caption. The banner image should be a visual attention grabber. Making sorry excuses for a badly selected image really doesn't help the traveler. Mrkstvns (talk) 17:24, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- The attention grabber is the front page image (above), which contains a prominent bicycle. Since they need to click on it first, their attention has already been duly grabbed by the time they see the banner.
- All that said, the banner of the target page is neither here nor there as far as topic selection is concerned. You said earlier that "many sections are not fully developed", can you expand on what you think is missing? Asamboi (talk) 23:57, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- The banner needs to be replaced as it is also used on Shimanami Kaido Bikeway. Banners should be unique. AlasdairW (talk) 22:21, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

- Needs work The article is surprisingly light on actual cycling details. Do city roads often have cycle lanes, or are there off road cycle tracks in the suburbs? We are told that you may have to pay for parking at a station, but how easy is to find bike storage at/near hotels, shops or museums. At the moment the article only really introduces cycling as an activity, not as a means of transport - how practical would it be to cycle from Tokyo to Kyoto? As a background it would interesting to know how popular cycling is in Japan. AlasdairW (talk) 22:54, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment - The article is tidy but quite short, maybe there are some things worth adding per other people's comments? --Ypsilon (talk) 14:22, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

- Support - Looks OK to me, if there are things that need to be updated towards feature this should of course be done. I think we can run this in April or May, and then Gotska Sandön perhaps in July. --Ypsilon (talk) 19:06, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
- If Nordic destinations are over-featured, we could delay this article to 2028. /Yvwv (talk) 14:09, 19 October 2026 (UTC)
- Nah, let's run this in April as it's been nominated and is in a good shape. We will have four Nordic features in the first half of 2027 but so be it for this one time - however let's not run anything else from the Nordics until 2028. Let's also run Oslo/Sentrum in May; earlier I apparently assumed we'd end up with four European DotMs stacked after each other but as Seville was slushed and Nuremberg will be featured towards the end of the year we can definitely feature Sentrum in May and Royan in June (maybe even one more European DotM around September or so). --Ypsilon (talk) 17:03, 19 October 2026 (UTC)
- I recently added a guideline against overlapping and back-to-back features within one day's non-flight journey; as Oslo/Sentrum is a 6-hour train ride and a 5 minute walk from this tour. Is this regulation overreaching, or does it make sense to space out destinations as close as Oslo and Stockholm? /Yvwv (talk) 19:49, 21 October 2026 (UTC)

- Needs work. I noted some issues at the talk page. Most of them are easy to fix, but there are also sections that need severe tightening of the prose, and some redundancy that needs to be sorted out. –LPfi (talk) 11:30, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- Comment - Looks informative on a quick glance, but there might be things to fix as LPfi pointed out. For the scheduling, we indeed just featured Planning your flight so this being part of the same series would maybe need to wait until the latter half of 2028. Speaking of individual airports, we haven't featured any since late 2025, and as we now have FTTs for several months of 2027 we could well nominate one of those. For instance, something we haven't had as FTT since 2018 (next year that will be nine years ago) is an airport outside of North America or Asia. --Ypsilon (talk) 19:02, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
- We have not had any recommended cooldown time for non-geographic travel topics from the same series. 24 months seems a bit harsh; maybe 12 months would be enough? /Yvwv (talk) 12:44, 26 September 2026 (UTC)
