Hello, Mr. Snatch! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. Lionel Cristiano (talk) 13:22, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

"Hotel" as an alternate name?
[edit source]Hi, Mr. Snatch. Could you please leave the "alt" tab in hotel listings blank unless the hotel actually has a genuine alternate name? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:06, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Also, if the advice for cellphone service is the same throughout Nigeria, please don't repeat it in any other article and put it only in the Nigeria article. Thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:07, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Okay sir, thank you very much Mr. Snatch (talk) 15:58, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Listings
[edit source]Please put listings for businesses like hotels, restaurants and bars in the article for the city they are in, not in the state they are in. Thank you. Also, the best way to add a listing is to use the listing templates that appear at the top of your edit screen. They will make sure you are using the correct formatting. Ground Zero (talk) 20:10, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Okay sir I will do that Mr. Snatch (talk) 20:15, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Which means don't do this in state articles, and actually, don't do it in city articles, either, because by posting "Closes soon," you demonstrate that you have copied and pasted without paying attention to the need to edit. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:07, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- okay sir Mr. Snatch (talk) 22:18, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- You're still doing it. The country, even. Please stop, and please delete the default address info you've already added. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:02, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

Numbered lists
[edit source]I should have thought of suggesting this before, but you can save yourself a lot of trouble by looking at articles in Category:Star articles and emulating their structure and style, even if it's still not always completely perfect. We don't use lists that we manually number. The numbers you see in several sections of a star article like Albuquerque get their numbers because lat/long geocoordinate numbers are given in the relevant listing tabs. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:33, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
Links
[edit source]Hi again. Please don't link every instance of a term like Nigeria. This isn't Wikipedia. One link per term per article is enough. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:31, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- okay sir, thank you. Mr. Snatch (talk) 07:36, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
The purpose of the "Connect" section
[edit source]Hi, sorry to be contacting you repeatedly, but some of the section names have ambiguous meanings. If you look at Wikivoyage:Small city article template#Connect, you'll see what this section is meant to cover:
Information on communications – phone, Internet, other. This is where you'd list Internet cafes or computer rental centers for staying in touch by email or on the Web. If there are free or paid wireless Internet hotspots in the district, name them here. Long-distance telephone centers, where travelers can pay to make long-distance telephone calls, would be useful here, too.
This section is about how to stay in touch with the rest of the world, not how to connect with people where you're visiting. Sure, you connect with them by talking to them, etc., but that's not the purpose of the section.
An additional thing it's not for, though, is to repeat general conditions that apply to the entire country. If all you can say is the exact thing that belongs in Nigeria#Connect, please leave out the section. It's not necessary to include it.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:56, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Don't tout and don't copy and paste
[edit source]Re: these edits: Please read Wikivoyage:Don't tout and make sure to follow it. It appears you are also continuing to violate Wikivoyage:Copyleft by copying and pasting directly from commercial websites. I think it's necessary to revert these edits and temporarily block your editing privileges for 3 days to give you time to read the links we've given you and make sure you are applying them. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Okay I will correct it sir Mr. Snatch (talk) 09:15, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Format of "Get in"
[edit source]Please look at Wikivoyage:Big city article template. Askira-Uba may take a small city article template, but when we divide up "Get in," this type of format is used. Numbers aren't used for the subsections. Thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:04, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Okay sir i will correct it now Mr. Snatch (talk) 09:07, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

Banners
[edit source]Hello, Mr. Snatch. Page banners must ge in the dimensions 7:1. You can find out how to cut a picture to that size using "Croptool" at WV:BANNER. Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 13:33, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

USING ALL CAPS
[edit source]Hello, we don't do this per Wikivoyage:Capitalization#Corporate shouting as this is seen as corporate shouting. Please fix all the instances you've added a listing in ALL CAPS such as Special:Diff/4997225, Special:Diff/4997088, Special:Diff/4985719 (and what is just "market" supposed to mean here?) or Special:Diff/4985272 before continuing any further. --SHB2000 (t | c | m) 10:12, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

Cropping banners at Commons using CropTool
[edit source]Mr Snatch, please cut images down to the correct size before ypu add tgem to articles as banners. The pafe banner you added at Numan is the wrong size.
Banners can be cropped online using CropTool without editing them in an external picture editor. Another advantage is that most of the necessary file information (author, description, license) is added automatically.
- Open existing source the file in Commons
- Select CropTool from the Tools panel on the left
- (The first time, you have to authorize the tool)
- Select Aspect ratio: 7:1, press Preview
- Check the preview, select Upload as new file and type the new file name according to the above instructions
- Press Upload
- After successful upload, check the new file and add it to the appropriate category "Category:Wikivoyage banners of "

Votes for deletion thread for Maiduguri International Airport
[edit source]Please read Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition#Article criteria, and after you do, feel free to make an argument at Wikivoyage:Votes for deletion#Maiduguri International Airport while keeping in mind those criteria. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:07, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- Currently, the only airport article listed under the airport category is O.R. Tambo International Airport. Since that is the only available example and I prefer to write about places I know personally, I’ve decided to focus on an airport I’m familiar with. However, I’m open to any suggestions or adjustments you may have, and I’m willing to add or remove any details as needed. thank you! Mr. Snatch (talk) 00:19, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- also i'm going to read all the criteria. Mr. Snatch (talk) 00:21, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
