A mysterious blue link from 2005 that redirects to WV:Region article template. Maybe delete as a cross-namespace redirect. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 09:28, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Neutral. I'm torn on this one. On one hand, it is a cross-wiki namespace and not one that's particularly useful, but on the other hand, it is the default text when you create a new article ("City name is in Region name"), and a redlink isn't a good look. //shb (t | c | m) 09:25, 10 July 2026 (UTC)- We also have redlinks like Country and Region, both deleted per VFD. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 09:28, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- In that instance, I'm leaning delete, though I'd want to hear more opinions too. //shb (t | c | m) 10:19, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing a good reason for deletion. It won't be confused with a real place. So how is it worthwhile to produce a huge amount of work cleaning up? Of course, no article should say "X is in Region name", but I'm still not seeing the advantage of deletion. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:37, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- What's the clean up work you're envisaging? --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 19:54, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- Well, it would actually be beneficial to substitute the actual region name, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Dunno. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:38, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, so presumably any stray 'Region names' showing up as redlinks would stand out as needing to be changed sooner, preferably by the person who first made the error.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 21:01, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

Weak keep. We have had this article for 20 years. By having Region name as a blue link, it is possible to find any newly created articles that need the region name completed using what links here, but this may be rarely used. AlasdairW (talk) 17:47, 10 July 2026 (UTC)- Having seen later comments, I am now happy if this is deleted. AlasdairW (talk) 13:28, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. This seems obvious to me. Far from "a red link is not a good look", it is exactly the perfect look when someone creates a new article without replacing this text. Pashley (talk) 20:50, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- Actually yeah...I too change my !vote to delete. //shb (t | c | m) 00:53, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete a red link isn't a good look, and a redirect to a template isn't useful for readers. Let the red link draw our attention to the need for the link to be replaced. Ground Zero (talk) 22:07, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- OK, those of you who want to delete this redirect have convinced me. I won't stand in your way; your logic makes sense. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:41, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete, per Pashley. And the "what links here" tool works on redlinks too. Gerode (talk) 01:12, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
Outcome: deleted per community consensus. //shb (t | c | m) 06:45, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
We considered and rejected this as a travel topic during the COVID lockdown, because viewing stuff without leaving the house is by definition not travel, and therefore off topic for this site. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:04, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete Another option could be to redirect to Staycation and make an off-hand reference to it. ―Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 15:07, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete, with a possible exception if it is completely rewritten to describe using virtual tools to complement physical travel. This could be museums who offer virtual tours using a device on the ground floor for those who don't fancy the stairs, or using online photos etc to help in trip planning. The only purely virtual tourism we want to encourage is reading our pages, like DOTM. AlasdairW (talk) 15:45, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- If we are including exceptions, we also have Volunteer_travel#Stay-at-home_volunteering. Pashley (talk) 16:07, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment Does anybody remember where that COVID-era discussion was? I couldn't find anything in the VfD archives. Gerode (talk) 16:09, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Bah! Found it a minute later in Talk:Staycation Gerode (talk) 16:11, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete unless we have a volunteer for a rewrite along the lines Alasdair suggests. Pashley (talk) 16:14, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Virtual tourism could maybe fit somewhere into an article about trip planning, as in videos and pictures that make you want to go to a certain place. (Or binge-watching such material a few days before you go because you wish you would be there already!!!). However, Wikivoyage and travel in general is IMO about actually going to those places, therefore I too say delete. --Ypsilon (talk) 18:28, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. //shb (t | c | m) 01:38, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. I think virtual travel in some sense could be suggested and discussed in Responsible travel and some sub-article of Preparation: about learning to know the place before actually going there, as suggested by AlasdairW – but in its current state the article has nothing salvageable for that discussion. –LPfi (talk) 10:38, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- As creator, I also lean towards deletion as long as it is described elsewhere appropriately. I just thought it's an interesting topic as it can complement physical travel. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 13:16, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
Outcome: Self-deleted. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 10:40, 13 August 2026 (UTC)
In 2019, this article scraped through a VFD on the (mistaken) basis that there were still a few monolingual Ainu speakers left. Sadly, this was not the case even at the time, and as of 2026 even the last bilingual native speakers have passed away. While it's still a heritage language taught in a few schools etc, the phrasebook is of no conceivable actual use to the traveller.
I would, however, be happy to rescue a few basic greetings and such for an infobox in Hokkaido, which already has some mildly-interesting basics like Ainu place names. Asamboi (talk) 00:55, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete standard phrasebooks for dead languages aren't really helpful. It could potentially be turned into a travel topic, but I think adding a few phrases to Hokkaido would be more useful. //shb (t | c | m) 01:56, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Delete as the language is recently dead with no native speakers left. It can be archived at WV:Archive. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 03:51, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- It is always sad to delete an article somebody has made a good-faith effort in creating and others have improved. I like the idea of archiving such articles. This is possibly also useful, such as the suggested saving of some phrases – for attribution reasons, you cannot merge content elsewhere from a to-be-deleted article, that content has to be deleted along with it. However, some articles should indeed be deleted, not archived, including those found unreliable. So let's archive this one. –LPfi (talk) 06:30, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- I too support archiving (not sure if my message earlier implied that), but I think if it is, Ainu phrasebook should redirect to Hokkaido#Talk. //shb (t | c | m) 06:39, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

- Archive (or Delete) as this is no longer practical for travel. I like the idea of rescuing interesting details in Hokkaido, Minority cultures of Japan#Ainu or any individual destinations associated with Ainu culture. Gerode (talk) 15:09, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment I am undecided between "Keep" and "Archive, retaining a redirect". There are incoming links from Commons and Wikipedia. How much cultural use is there of Ainu? Is a traveller likely to see a performance or concert using Ainu, or hear greetings in Ainu? AlasdairW (talk) 20:57, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Unless they specifically seek out an Ainu cultural center, they are exceedingly unlikely to see or hear either of those. And standard phrasebook fare ("where is the train station") won't be useful if they do. Asamboi (talk) 23:51, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Archive. It's by no means impossible that the language could be revived in the future. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:05, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
Outcome: Phrasebook archived. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 10:45, 13 August 2026 (UTC)
Could also refer to WV:Search engine optimization or Séguéla Airport. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 07:02, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: The airport should have priority, only we have no information in it. The town of 50,000 inhabitants (according to Wikipedia) redlinks. The town is listed in Northern Savanna#Cities, but only HGO IATA is mentioned in Get in. Wikipedia has no information on what flights there are to the airport. Seems the redirect is unneeded for the time being.
- We should avoid cross-namespace redirects, and I don't think business promoters find the current redirect – but I wonder, what way do they find (or are supposed to find) Wikivoyage:Welcome, business owners, Wikivoyage:Welcome, tourism professionals & al? Wikivoyage:Policies, the most relevant-looking left-margin link (in Monobook; where are they in Vector?) does not help.
